I have just built a background holder out of a lighting T bar and a few bits of wood, just finished it and set it up and along came my first victim, the youngest ready for bed.

I used the off camera flash (cobra 700AF - with pins manually removed :D ), and bounced it off a reflector - had the nifty fifty lens on (just as couldn't be bothered changing).

Any thoughts - good / bad / indifferent ? He suffers badly from exzema and like most kids a permanent dirty face

Thanks for looking

So is that pronounced 'rory' then?

I really like this, it's nice and simple.

I would've turned the power down on the flash a touch though, it seems just a touch too harsh to me.

Other than than that, can't offer a lot advice etc. :)

thanks Spencer.

yer its the gaelic form of Rory - pronounced like Brewery but with an R.

Can't turn the flash power down I'm afraid - as I only have the shoot pin left and no adjustment other than bounce angle and shutter speed

Agreed, it is nice and simple. If you can't turn the flash power down, you could always move it further back... or reduce the aperture.

Good photo though! :)

agree with the other guys :) flash feels a bit harsh, hmmm if you cant turn the flash down, maybe do as the others suggest, or maybe able to diffuse it a little ?

As others have said, fun shot, just a touch harsh on the right :)

He looks like a cool kid!

a bit of tissue and an elastic band over the flash used to work for my MUM...he's a cute wee lad and i love the spelling of his name, found myself saying Rewery out loud a few times, good job Barry's still snoring

Thanks guys - Excellent advice!

First stop I'll try the aperture - whilst sat at work I'm trying to work out do I go down towards f2 or up towards f22 to get less light - one part of my brain says up towards f22.

The tissue paper idea - Great - I take it the heat of the flash doesn't set fire to the paper.

Marianne - all the boys have quite unusual names - Colum patric (as in Columba but some folk call him callum by mistake) , Aidan Connall and Ruaridh Fintan. - all from St Columba, St Aidan and St Fintan - all celtic saints.

Cool names!

No, the flash won't set fire to the tissue paper, and yes, to let in less light, you 'go up towards f/22'
