very majestic..great shot too!
Cooooorrrrr is all I can say to that!
I really want to stroke his nose, as much as I know how that would just end in tears. And loss of limbs.

Right seeing as this is in critique, I'll have a go at seeing what I would like to see better :)
Pin sharp and I love the bokeh.
Highlights are a little blown at the right hand side and are a bit distracting, but otherwise an really good shot, one I would be chuffed to have taken
The only thing that doesnt sit right is the composition. I know you've left a gap for him to look 'into' so to speak, but for me it isn't exactly spot on, it still seems empty or something, so the composition is doing little for me.
I'd try cropping a little off the left.....but that's just me :)
Hope this is a little bit of critique that helps...I know it's not much, but it's a start, and may give others the lead to jump in and comment.

I love pics of big cats, and this is great
Thanks everybody :)
Marcel ! thanks for taking the time to waffle :) I was a bit worried about that burned out bit, but i still liked it so thought nah ill leave it ;) and i do know what you mean about the framing, i just cant decide which way to go with it, thats why i put it in critique ! :)

Beautiful shot Ian. Perfect in many respects to me. :)
As this is critique; I think it looks better with a little cropped off the right, as I find that bright bit of background very distracting and removing it with a crop seems to add to the impact of his face and shot as a whole...perhaps a nad of the top and/or bottom to keep the classic frame shape.
:)
Thanks for the comments Adam :)
I have had a hack about with it, here are 2 versions both have the same crop but one has been "burned" on the highlights, its a very quick job and just seeing if its worth taking the time over to do properly :)

Yep I prefer that crop, and the burnt one wins it for me...but only just. :)
I'm glad someone else has problems deciding which way to crop...drives me round the twist sometimes.

Great shot, grumpy looking git aint he?
Great shot, grumpy looking git aint he?
Thanks Gary, i thought more snooty and above everybody than grumpy, but i suppose it could mean the same thing ! lol :)
The burnt one wins for me and as for composition I couldnt really see a lot wrong with it.
Think I could do with a lesson in compostion. I try my best in camera but, if I have to crop, Im like FB and can never decide which crop to go with.

Superb shot! Love the bokeh this lens produces and I much prefer the composition with the "cat" to the right.
Pin sharp? Dunno. There's a big difference between sharp and over-sharpened, I think this tending towards over-cooked for me. Look at the halos around the black whiskers. If it was truly sharp they wouldn't be there... sorry to mention it but it's something that bugs me. Too much contrast gives the same appearance of sharpness and sacrifices tonal range.
The burnt bits don't bother me too much. Could there be a catch light in the eyes? Dunno - moot point, but it would give it that extra bit of pizzazz!
thanks for taking the time to comment Chuckles, the halos are probably more to do with compression than sharpening, as i havent applied much to these, a couple of very light strokes of USM is all. I cant see them on the full size one !
