I know about the nikkor 85mm Ai f2 but not too much about zeiss or other brands, anything relatively cheap or moderately priced worth looking for? Id like a zeiss but think it´ll run 5 or 600 notes

the tamron 90mm adaptall-2 has a very good name. Seems to be ~ £100ish Which should include the correct adapter.

There's the current 3rd party option available under several names e.g. Samyang, Sakar, Falcon, Polar, Vivitar etc. You can see it compared with the Tamron Adaptall-2 here: http://www.kwigibocity.com/Vivitar8514.html

It's compared with other old school lenses here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=654126&page=4 (see the following page for some discussion of the bokeh, with particular relevance to Nikon-fit alternatives).

More on why Nikon-fit users should be interested (but not, perhaps, those with crop sensors) while Canon users have a better OEM option: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=650972&page=2

At the same sort of price as the Tamron (but with very variable quality) is the Jupiter-9 f/2 85mm. The M42 version (to use with a Nikon adapter) would be the one to consider. Fifteen aperture blades!

Also in M42, there's the Pentax SMC Takumar f/1.8 85mm, see: http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/showproduct.php?product=284

This and alternatives are put in context here: http://www.taunusreiter.de/Cameras/Pentax_Takumar_85mm.html
