Just bought one of these unfortunatly no owners manual, does anybody know where I can download one? I have looked but no luck.

Well I read the manual :thinking: fitted the flash to camera and went outside to take pic of car, camera struggled to autfocus but flash would not fire, tried it indoors working fine :bang:
HELP PLEASE
 
what were you trying to focus on outside (car I guess) & how far away was it?
did the shutter actually operate but the flash didn't fire or did the whole setup not function?
 
probably because it couldn't lock focus.
were you shooting in manual, programme etc. - can you post your whole settings setup?
 
I can't remember the settings but this was the result

well, can you remember if you had it set to ADi or pre-flash TTL?
flash mode to Auto, fill in, wireless etc.?
AF illuminator on?
Flash compensation?
 
Camera set to ADI
Flash mode fill-flash
Gun set on
TTL
HSS
WL - off what is WL
Ratio - off
Level 1/1
M Zoom 85mm
 
WL is wireless.

Don't have that gun & haven't read the manual - in fact not really a big flash user but you might want to check:
you say that you have the camera on ADi but the gun on TTL
HSS is high speed sync yet according to your exif info the camera is on standard synch (1/160)
you have the camera lens @30mm but the gun is set to 85mm
 
One thing I've found with Sony flash in general, is that is seems better to power on the body, then power on the flash afterwards. I've had underexposed images just like yours if I do it the other way round!
