Here are a couple of shots of the same scene I took at new year in Rhosneigr. I've used the grad filter tool in Lightroom to show more of the dynamic range available in the raw.

i'd say maybe too much sky in the first and too little detail in the 2nd

#1 is nice, although yes looking at the pic posted here perhaps the top inch and a half could come off - the sky at the very very top is less interesting in my mind, the colours throughout that are lovely though. #2 is a little bland in my mind.

If you made 2 a little more dramatic you might be able to save it, something like this:

But I on the original it would be better because you need to pull out some detail in the grass.

Thanks for the comments. here's a crop of the first taken down to a square with the horizon on a 1/3.

Not sure I prefer it.

Good points about increasing the contrast in the grass on the B&W though, I think that would help.

I think the original looked better than that crop. I think you cropped too much.

My suggestion was getting less sky and a little more ground but would involve retaking rather than cropping
