WEB HOSTING

I use Dataflame.co.uk - have been for last 3 years now, for several different websites and several different packages. Always been super reliable, very little downtime, full cp access, SQL DB's if you need them, even a site bulider [though I havent used that] the lot! Not the cheapest but by no means expensive, and they do monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual payment plans for each package, needless to say cheaper the bigger the 'chunk' of time you pay for at once. You can also customise a package, adding more bandwidth, storage space, and so on.
Technical support is also excellent and quick, I dont think I have ever had to wait more than a hour to an request for help from them.

I have been with a super US based company for several years now - A Small Orange - they are really, very good. I started with a medium plan as at the time my site was receiving many thousands of visitors per month, now, I deliver many millions of pages per month and receive over a hundred thousands uniques per month and as such I have an owned dedicated server with them to which they provide the server hosting and admin for me.

They really are a very good company.

our host is listed at the bottom of the page, also register1.net and catalyst2 are good

I use idleserv who are cheap as chips and provide full cp use and ssh. Got both my domains sat on them :)

I'm using Dreamhost and have been since January. Seem pretty reliable so far - had no reason to contact support.

I cannot recommend eleven2, awful support and had a hell of a time getting my account closed with them.

I use servage, they are fantastic and the price is great too. I've recommended quite a few people to them who all have had no problems whatsoever.

Another servage user here. I run a few websites off my account and have never had any problems. Been with them about 9 months. :)

Also use dreamhost, i have had to use support a few times and have waited no longer than an hour for an answer. fantastic price and superb customer support

I see 'servage' have a web page builder has anyone else used that part of their service or can anyone recommend an idiots page builder for them to host....to me that seems the hard part creating the pages.

Dreamhost also offer one click installs of lots of CMS based websites, such as wordpress, gallery, joomla, zen cart, phpbb, mediawiki and some more. No configuration just click and go! they even have like 50 templates pre-installed for each to!

Very cheap considering the $ -> £ rate at moment.

Use promo code: TLKPHOTO to get $10.00 off monthly plan, $20.00 off yearly plan and $30.00 off 2 yearly plan.

no no no no no no no no no

I cannot recommend enough that you dont use 1and1. They missold me their services, told me I had to upgrade my package to have an mx record (essentially a text file for setting up mail for domains) and the control panel is a pain in the ass.

google is your friend.

Unless you learn what each type of web site is and can do, you'll never be able to make proper use of one. You need to do the work of finding out yourself Sheep m8, it's the only way.

I agree100% - stay away from oneandone... they are not the best out there and they impose sever restrictions that are hidden away in the small print.

I was with them for a short while several years ago, but moved away after an elongated spell of dreadfully poor customer service.

Dedicated is the way to go if you're serious about web hosting.

I can highly recommend www.fasthost.com 1.5gig on the basic package with full stats etc etc for £5 a month.

Oh prepared to learn just need pointing in all the right directions  guess you learn by your mistakes on the way as well.

 have I hijacked this thread opps sorry if I have Spencer :)

well you cant go wrong with dreamhost, you get a domain name to. They offer all the features you will ever need as you grow a bigger understanding of things.

Their control panel is simple to use as well

To be honest i would just do a one click install of wordpress and play around with things. Or gallery, depending what type of site you want to achieve.

In fact you can setup and play with both lol

I can't recommend vidahost enough. They're well priced and the options are well specced. Possibly most importantly, the customer service is second to none.

I use a company called Hytek Hosting, 1000MB space, 30GB transfers/month, for $55 a year...

Owned by a chap named Josh - very quick to respond to support queries, even phoned me (in the UK!) from the States to help out with a set-up problem I had....

Everyone keeps putting me off fasthosts, but they are just soooo cheap I am tempted to try them for a bit.

EDIT - ok should have read the link, www.fasthost.com and www.fasthosts.com - interesting!

I have a large site hosted on Fasthosts. They are super-reliable BUT their spam filters appear to be non-existent. Just two of very many spam headers this morning:

Cialis and Viagra Directly from Genuine Manufacturer
Get now your pack of Genuine Cialis

If they are not filtering out those, they're not filtering at all.

My previous host (Drak) was very successful at filtering spam so the instant explosion on moving to Fasthosts was a shock. I will probably be moving the site again as soon as its practical.

Is that just a one man band? what happens if he goes on holiday, or servers go down while he is asleep

I use pickaweb who are good and bad in equal proportions. I've had websites for the past 8 years with various hosts who have all been... good and bad in equal proportions.

Nice sitting on the fench there Nigel :p

Nice photoblog too, based on pixelpost just like mine ! Love the shot 'Storm at Linnhe' :)

todhost and tsohost here, both seem reliable, can't remember any significant down time with either.
