Found this on evil bay and it helped explain why people mention certain things during lens sales

As always when buying a 2nd hand lens it still comes down to how trustworthy the seller is at describing the item.
 
The other potential problem in this digital age is the amount of photos available from manufacturer's and store sites of almost any lens you can imagine.

If in doubt then ask the seller to post a pic that shows the serial number of the lens. You can then check that against what you receive.
 
When I returned this 24mm Sigma, the eBay seller thought the fungus I was referring to was the view of the bushes through the rear of the lens!

I can't see a problem there, can you put a red ring round it or something?
 
It's what you might be mistaken in thinking is the reflection of winter trees in the front element.
