Took some paid for shots at a cattle market a couple of weeks ago with a borrowed Sigma 10-20 at the shortest end which delivered exactly what the client requested. Not my call but for what it's worth I didn't like the results; way too much barrel distortion. Very little vignetting though on the plus side. Happy to post the snaps in this thread or PM if you like.
All of your images are pleasing to my eye, particularly 1, 3, 4 and 7. Not keen on the shot in general but I do rather like the PP mono conversion you've done in 5.
Im liking the impact of the shadow and woman in five.
As for the wide side of things, I like its cover in the second and third, reasonably fitting comps I think
...the distortion at the edges is horrid and they do look soft deep down, have you sharpened them?
Just a thought but did you know the 18-70mm Nikon DX kit lens is pretty sharp across the whole range. ..id imagine one could pick them up cheep, good fill in while your saving maybe.
If you still want a wide on a crop, have a play with the tokina 11-16 on your d200 Here's a link to my flickr pics using the lens - less distortion (though some still there).
