Hi folks,

I was looking at getting a super tele zoom for under £700 and came across Sigma's 120-400mm HSM OS.

I used to have the 50-500mm (non-OS) and didn't go much on the image quality. I did some research and had seen some amazingly sharp photos from the 120-400mm...so I decided to buy one!

What a lens! OS works great and the IQ is amazing for the amount paid for it. Fast AF and sharpness is good at f5.6, excellent and f8...only issue is sometimes the AF is a bit grumpy.

Here's a few shots I took today of the camera...

not bad at all, enjoy it :)

I'm a bit confused as to why you had such a high shutter speed. If the OS is that good surely it would have been better to reduce this to say 1/500 or 1/1000 and reduce the ISO to eliminate the noise.

It does say 'first shots' and if they're not used to OS then it figures. OP - Nice and crisp images, enjoy the lens.

I do realise it is his first shots with this lens, but he did say the OS was great and he does have three other VR lenses. I was just wondering why he selected such a high ISO. The shots are okay, but I think they could be improved with a lower ISO to reduce the noise. That's all.

As above has already been answered for me.

You're silly to try a new lens and really on VR because "other lenses have it". It's a new lens and I'more concerned about sharpness than noise so wanted to make sure I got that.

If I have to use OS I will but the noise levels are not nearly enough to concern me.
