Clearly, I am the only one here who can't remember how to change his avatar, and then has no idea how to add a hat. Might have to go buy me one unless one of you cleverer-than-me members explains...

right click & Save your avitar Steve, ( if you don't have the original)
And just draw a red hat on yourself in paint is the easiest or Photoshop or whatever

Then go to your user panel, and "add / change avitar"
