You can only view RAWs as Thumbnails with plug-ins in Vista.
I've got both XP and Vista on different machines. Vista fine. XP no go

Windows site has a file that you can view RAW files. As I installed it and I see them all in exployer/desktop icons etc.
Just search around on microsoft website

Picasa will allow you view RAW files.
