Some interesting reading there. I used to have a Minolta Scan Elite 5400 which I found really great for doing all my old negs and slides. If I could justify it I'd buy another without hesitation, but for the small amounts I'll be doing now its not worth it at the moment.

Thats good to hear, I used to have my own film scanner too but no more. If I start taking a lot of film I might invest in another but its a lot of dosh for something decent!

Can anyone recommend a good place for 35mm film processing and scanning that doesn't cost the earth. It will mainly be for black & white and I need the scanned files to be ideally saved in a TIFF format.... Any good places out there that people have used..?

Much as I'd have loved to have bought them both there and then, my credit card really would have complained..! I bought a 70-200 F2.8 yesterday in any case so those might have caused meltdown :) I need to sell my MKI 100-400 before I do anything.....

I tried one last night on a 7D II at LCE in Southampton. Brilliant lens, the speed of the AF is much superior to the original. Not sure about the twist zoom compared to the push/pull, but then I prefer the push/pull myself as a personal preference.

The kit lens isn't that bad, I've got some very nice results from it and I'm used to L series quality as I run Canon kit as well. I don't use it massive amounts as I have Minolta lenses that are better and cover the same focal range, but if I want to use the stabiliser its still very good to...

In case anyone is looking to buy an A7, walked past my local London Camera Exchange this evening and they are doing the A7 with kit lens for £999. Very good deal and only marginally more expensive than an import....

One quick test snap with the above combo taken at F1.4. Shot in RAW and converted to Jpeg in Photoshop. Straight from camera with no sharpening applied, only thing I altered slightly was the levels.
