hi i have found my problem, the sigma flash was not making proper contact with the hot shoe so i have made a bracket to mount my 580ex. will post results at the weekend

hello again :wave: I use 1/250 f11 ISO 100 flash set usually to -1 1/3ev but this is all up in the air at the minute because i am used to my 450d and am still experimenting. For example i am finding i can get away with f14-f16 with the 50d. Brackets made so might all change when i try the 580ex...
