    Noisless ISO 3200 a reality

Taking several photos at ISO 3200 is no different to taking one photo with a long shutter speed at ISO 100! There are no advantages to using the high ISO - i.e. you cannot handhold, moving objects will still blur, and 'halos and flares' from light sources will be exactly the same. But you...

    Marlow

Thanks guys, yes - it is a lovely place - and the surrounding countryside quite stunning too! Now if only I could transplant it next to the see it would be perfect.... sigh - my failings as a perfectionist will always haunt me.... :) Duncan.

Scrap your lenses! They won't work on new breed of cameras!!!

There is some truth, and some not-so-true in the post. Lens design needs to be a compromise of many factors : price, weight, distortion, chromatic aberration, sharpness, vignetting to list the mains problems. You can optimise it for particular qualities, as long as you are happy to sacrifice...

    Nikon D40 or Sony A200?

Not sure if anyone mentioned the DxO website to help with camera comparisons - It seems to be a sensible indicator of image quality, certainly better than just looking at MP, anyway... http://tinyurl.com/crco3s All best, Duncan.

    Recommend some film please

What you really want is something that will give you some impressive results - why don't you put some Velvia 50 in and take photos of something colourful? If you'd rather do portraits, try Astia or Provia instead. Provia 400X is pretty good. The problem with negative film is getting from...

    Beattie Screens

I'm interested in this screen for my Pentax LX But - for those of you who have the screen... Is there any noticeable difference seen when you stop down from F1.4 to F1.8/F2/F2.8? I ask this because modern focussing screens seem to ignore large apertures, making depth of field preview...

    Nikon D40 or Sony A200?

Just to throw a bit more into the mix, you're missing one camera that beats both these cameras in terms of lens compatibility (ok arguably, but you can use any K-mount lens), has image stabilisation, in body and in lens focus, weather proofing etc etc - Pentax K200D Duncan

In need of a 50mm prime (nikon)

I have the 50/1.4D - it's a nice lens. Apparently the 50/1.4G is nicer - more contrasty wide-open and with AF-S. The Sigma 50/1.4 has less vignetting wide open, but is softer. The latest issue of AP has a good comparison. All three lenses have better CA than the 1.8 it would seem. Duncan.

    India: Environmental portraiture

Great photos. I was there two years ago - and your photos brought me back there for a moment! They certainly capture that 'something' about that area of India - the colour, the mess, the liveliness of the place. All best, Duncan. PS yes, 800 wide would probably have been better... :)

    Nikon F6 Review

CT - cheers :) no need to be jealous - just ask my neck which camera it prefers! photon : yes, not so keen on flash - on camera flash has never really worked for me, off camera flash has given me better results, but it's so unpredictable I wouldn't experiment on film with it. Instead I've...

    Nikon film camera

All seems like good advice. I think the 105 VR macro (nice lens by the way! - one I'd like to get hold of) should work supremely on an F100. I don't think the F100 or F5 supports CLS, but I'm sure the SB800 will work with TTL flash on the F100. For CLS you'll need the F6 probably.
