For those struggling with ideas for assignment 3. When I finally figured out what to do for mine and submitted it, my tutor stated in his reply that he personally thinks the assignment isn't worded very well and covers too many aspects all in one go. He also said that everyone struggles with...

Congratulations! I agree some of them appear basic but I think its structured to set you in the right frame of mind for the assignments that are coming.

Nothing wrong with riding a bike as the subject, that is exactly what I did for mine. I made a bit of a story out of it though to give a structure to the set, started with a pic of my daughter reading a magazine about horses sitting beside her bike, then a couple of shots of her riding the bike...

It's been a while since I posted anything in here, it seems to have gone a little quiet too. How is everyone getting on? Since my last post which was the landscape module (btw the HDR was fine to submit!) which I didn't get a great mark for but the reasoning for marking me down given by my tutor...

Good luck with your first submissions, I agree about the first module that it is a confidence boosting exercise, I also think that it lets the tutor understand where your coming from and where you want to be so they can advise accordingly throughout the course.

Well done Greg! Last night I submitted my landscape assignment, will find out if we are correct in the assumption that style wise we have a free reign as I put in an HDR image as one of my three. I almost chickened out but thought I'd give it a go. If it's not acceptable I'll do it again.

Hi Paul, There are 26 modules. Each module has a number of exercises that you need to carry out for yourself and assignments at the end of most modules. Of the 26 modules only 14 have assignments that are to be sent to your tutor for grading, the rest are optional. Personally I'm doing all of...

I got the 'scrubbed' version too. Quite frankly there is not one mark on any of it! Here's the link: http://www.inst.org/photography-courses/enroloffer.htm

I just had a quick look at the assignments and the basic requirements are; Fashion assignment: Friend or family member to pose for you in different outfits. School: There is no assignment attached to this module. As for the wedding module, your subjects don't need to dress up for this...

Question for you Steve, I'm at the planning point for Module 9 and will be shooting this when I get home this trip. I've read the brief a couple of times and can't figure out if it's 3 different versions of the same landscape they want or 3 different landscapes? Did you do different...

Yes. You have to maintain a 'C' or better average to gain the Diploma (average A's - Distinction, B's - Merit, C's - Pass Grade) and any assignment that you score below a 'C' on you are allowed to do again.

Curious as to why you just didn't complete it since going by your flickr sets you were at module 23? Seems a shame to stop after getting that far. Yes, the qualification may not mean much but for me the whole point is to add some structure to improving my work as I'm normally useless at...

Kevin, you'd be best to start a thread in the equipment section for advice. More people will see it there.

Suppose it depends on the distance etc between your locations and the scenes your capturing. Mine were all within around a 30km radius and I made a plan as to what times of day I wanted to be in the different areas to catch the right amounts of people and activites. Started at about 9am and got...

Tourism done and dusted. :) Happy with my grade and feedback was great. The day I shot mine it had rained overnight and the sky was a lifeless grey and hazy. I almost decided not to shoot but due to work commitments if I didn't shoot on that day it was going to be 3 weeks till I could again so...
