    Canon 50mm f1.0...

Because manual focus is not something I particularly enjoy doing. :exit:

    Canon 50mm f1.0...

Thanks for the feedback, all. I watched another of Dustin's videos where he talks about what the lens is like to actually use and he lists the compromises (very informative). I then watched his video about the f1.2L where he explains that - even thought he considered it a flawed product...

    Canon 50mm f1.0...

Hi, all. Has anybody ever used one? Does anybody near Cambridge have one? I am trying to work out whether or not it is actually any good (beyond the f1.0 factor) compared to current f1.4 lenses (the 50L, Sigma ART included). I generally shoot at max aperture because I like the "glow" the...

    Canon EOS 80d Owners Thread

Yes - something like that! Focus works without me having to revert to centre point mode, higher than ISO800 is useable, and NFC is highly entertaining. :) It has also helped me fall in love with my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 again.

    Canon EOS 80d Owners Thread

I bought one of these on Wednesday as a replacement for an ailing 20D... And my goodness - cameras have come a long way since 2005! :)

    The Tamron 500mm F/8 SP

Not yet - I need to spend an afternoon with it to really see what I can do with it. But that looks awesome. :D

    The Tamron 500mm F/8 SP

My dad has - for his own reasons - given up on his SLR photography and bequeathed me all his old gear... It comprised Canon FD kit (with an EOS adaptor), so aperture doesn't work and it's all MF. One of the items was a lens I'd seen as a child many years ago but it was the Tamron 500mm F/8 SP...

Small heath and a Brown argus

I actually really, really love this slightly different take on composition as it gives the little fellow some personality (some how...?) by showing what he's up to. :)

A few of a close mate and my personal trainer in gym only natural light

The drama and intent of these photos is epic... from my personal perspective (as a weightlifter), I'd like to have a bit more DOF for the back shots to show the bag'o'snakes that is his back, and then slightly looser framing so we can see what he's doing (dumbell benching and then tricep...

    Inevitable "what upgrade?" Thread (sorry!)

Thanks for the responses... From the sound of things APS-C is probably the way forward. I had looked at 7ds, but a lot have massive shutter counts that make me baulk. One option might be a 5d with nice glass as a less painful entry to FF, but I am not going to get much better in terms of...

    Inevitable "what upgrade?" Thread (sorry!)

Hiya! Bigger pictures for me means "printing" as I have recently gotten into big (24*16 minimum) prints. Regarding glass, I don't have anything other than the nifty fifty and the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and a flash. Thanks for any help!

    Inevitable "what upgrade?" Thread (sorry!)

Hi, everybody. I have been using my Canon 20D since around 2010 and it is working just fine (battery life is shorter than it was but...). I have a 550ex flash, a Sigma 30mm f1.4 and a Nifty Fifty, with access to some nicer glass through a family member. It has pants high ISO, the AF is ropey...

    B&W Matthew

I really like it. :) My personal quirk would have been to frame it slightly more to the left, but I am weird... The conversion to BW really seems to work, here, so big thumbs up from me (whatever that is worth!)!

First set on my 5D mk II (more pics added)

Nice set - the first one is just awesome. However, I reckon 2+3 could have been had slightly better framing (to my eye), with less space around the subject's head. Just my take, as there seems to be a lot of fresh air around her...

    Nikon D800......

Is the Mac so much better that it means the extra cost paid is less than the value of time spent upgrading a non-Mac? Set batch jobs running overnight. :D Personally, I'm waiting for "Canon 5d Mark 3" specs to come out so I have an excuse to plump for the D800. Just have to sell all my...
