Beginner Please explain Computer Processors & what makes a 'fast' computer?

PS. And here are the two CPUs you mentioned in your opening post: https://ark.intel.com/compare/97129,126685 The blue horizontal bars on the page highlight the differences between the two (assuming 'Highlight differences' box is ticked at the top of page).

No probs Danny. :) Another useful gizmo on Intel's site is the 'compare' feature: Find a processor (e.g. the i7-2600K in my earlier link), tick 'add to compare' (top right of page) Type another processor name (e.g. i5-8600K) in 'search specifications' box top right of page - wait for 2nd page...

Beginner Please explain Computer Processors & what makes a 'fast' computer?

Intel's processor spec pages include some quick explanations of the various terms - just click the little blue question marks and they'll pop up. Here's one for instance - https://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Intel-Core-i7-2600K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz Scroll down to the 'Advanced...

Sorry, I didn't realise it was against the rules. I do now.

    Nikon d850 "in development"

According to reply no2 here, there's one that'll do it - worth a try.

I agree it had more on the live view/fps/video/(etc) fronts - but I don't care about those, I'm only interested in single frame image quality. I'm not even interested in high ISO.

I don't know - it might have been, but I couldn't understand German and we didn't want to prolong things by asking questions. They were definitely looking for something though - we had to unpack every single flight case (26 of them!). Maybe they didn't like the look of us (girl crew-members...

    D850 price difference.

No it didn't. I did extensive side-by-side testing on the 800E and 810 (using tripod, remote, continuous lighting, same lenses, same subjects, same settings, etc.) and I literally couldn't tell the difference between them (in image quality). In fact I did a blind test (someone else renamed the...

No idea what they were looking for. No, we weren't importing (or exporting) - it was all our own gear (i.e. mine). Yes, we were filming (TV crew). We'd left Italy and were driving to Germany via Austria.

I've had German customs check serial numbers on my broadcast camera equipment (not consumer DSLRs) - they went though absolutely everything with a fine-tooth comb. Cameras, lenses, batteries, tripod heads, microphones. matte boxes, sound recorders, the lot. We even had to take the sides off the...

PS. I'd rather pay double the list price for one D850 than disconnect a pan connector. :D

I'm relaxing by fitting a new loo. :mooning: Haven't got as far as unhitching the old pan connector yet - the now that is angst.:D Sick bucket(s) at the ready. :cautious: Btw, that's not my pic, or toilet!

    D850 price difference.

I'm not sure the USD is the key factor. All my Nikon stuff has warranty papers from Nikon Europe B.V., which is based in Amsterdam. If Nikon Japan supplies direct to Nikon Europe, the key currency would be the Euro and not the Dollar. So we'd need to compare the GBP/EUR rates between the D800E...
