Nifty Fifty Challenge 2024 - "Runner up" images

One view of a bunch of oil seed rape fields that are just flowering right now. I wanted to try and capture a vivid sea of yellow but didn't quite get there. RF50mm 1.8, f/5.6, 1/800 sec

    Boats - an open thread

Ships in storage near Falmouth. This is a scan of a typical Boots processed print. I 'think' this was taken on a first generation Canon EOS 650 but it was a long time ago!

Many thanks for the encouraging replies. My local Parkrun is Fareham who seem to be regularly in need of volunteers. All the best,

    Parkrun Photographer

Hi All, I've been keeping an eye on our local Parkrun site as I'd like to try and do one eventually. However, I note they they regularly need a volunteer photographer. It doesn't seem too onerous but I'm a bit timid about putting my name forward. Has anyone ever done this? All the best, Pete

    Rechargeable vacuum cleaners - recommendations?

In answer to the question above about the Henry Quick, I checked with Mrs Pete and her words were that something a like a small stone (presumably from our grown up kids that tread all sorts of crap through the house) would get sucked all the way into the bag so i guess the answer is yes, your...

    Upvc window catch help please

To complement the comment from Gav above, you definitely can swap the shafts but it might not be obvious how so apologies if I’m teaching you to suck eggs. Grip the old shaft in a vice and wallop what remains of the handle, it should be friction fit but a very, very tight one, I could not do it...

    Upvc window catch help please

Hi there, I’ve literally, last weekend but one done this to a few of our 30 year old double glazed windows. I bought replacement handles from a place called “handle store.com” where they have advice on what to measure and what to order. Handles were about £6.50 to £10 a pop. most critical...

    Rechargeable vacuum cleaners - recommendations?

Might be a bit late to the party here but after a couple of Dysons that we weren't that impressed with frankly opted for the Henry Quick which is a worth a look at in my humble opinion. The 'traditional' Henry in my garage / workshop has been pretty much indestructible and thus far the handheld...

Panamoz and Canon UK good customer service

Oh boy, this thread is keeping me up at night. Mrs Pete has indicated that if I give up all my pocket money for the next two years I could have the RF100-500mm at the grey import price! The big issue is whether my needs / dubious level of ability really justify it. The main trouble being the...

Nifty Fifty Challenge 2024 - Chat thread

Things are looking up here weather wise on the South Coast. My other half is keen on the National Garden Scheme and although I've got little interest in horticulture beyond a few buzzwords picted up from Gardener's Question Time, I'm a willing victim accomplice as oftentimes, the better off...
