    Rostock

Thanks for your comments. The destinations were great. The clock was astonishing.

    Not so Sporty

Thanks. it's always hard to know whether to isolate the cars or put them in a context.

4k Monitors, Unsharp Mask and Canon 5DS

When using cameras, other than the Canon 5DS, I found that I had to apply some Unsharp Mask to get the Jpegs sharp enough to display at 800x533 on internet sites. It seemed that every time I reduced the size of a jpeg, the image became softer. In the last few years, I have moved from a VGA...

    Nyhavn

Thanks for the comment. The rest of the world seems to do this well. We have the painted doors in Newark. Not quite the same.

    Not so Sporty

I wandered into the Botanic Gardens the other week to find a Victorian gala. The first thing I saw was a small collection of old cars. They included a “Maigret” (for those who remember him on TV) Citroen. Hard to ignore the cars as a photographic opportunity. Here are some of the cars present...

    St Petersburg Day 1

Thanks for your explanation. In the last few months, my approach to photography has undergone a number of changes. Firstly, I have bought a Canon 5DS and am getting used to the changes which having a high resolution camera has on taking photographs. Secondly, I have upgraded my monitor to a 4k...

    Catherine the Great's Palace

On our second morning in St Petersburg we went to the palace Catherine the Great built. No expense spared. Here’s the ballroom, a clock I liked, a Russian bride (there’s a wedding there every day) and the back of the palace with the usual bling. The Ballroom A Clock Russian Bride...

    Tallinn

Thanks for your feedback. I am not sure what you mean by rendition in photography terms. Modern governments have given “Rendition” a bad name in common usage. Would you please clarify what you mean by very heavy rendition?

    St Petersburg Day 1

Thanks for your feedback. I am not sure what you mean by noisy. The camera is a Canon 5DS and the lens is a Sigma f1.4 35 mm prime. Would you please clarify what you mean by noisy?

    St Petersburg Day 1

From Tallinn on to St Petersburg. No Russian visa needed if you are on a ship docking for less than 72 hours and you are on a guided tour. Russian immigration officers may have learned to smile from their US counterparts. We visited the church of the Spilled Blood, built after the assassination...

    Tallinn

We had a day at sea sailing from Warnemunde to Tallinn. It is only a short walk from the quay to the old town. We had a coffee in the oldest coffee shop in Tallinn. The shop is a tourist attraction with guided tours walking in, taking a photograph and walking out. We also visited the Russian...

    The leaving of Tilbury

Thanks for your comments. The post processing was an attempt to get more from the sky than was there. The outcome is not as good as I might have hoped. The cruise was good in most respects though I should have liked to go under the Great Belt Bridge.

    Rostock

We sailed to Warnemunde from where some people went to Berlin. We didn't fancy three hours on a coach in each direction so we went to Rostock instead. Here's the astronomic clock found in the cathedral and the statue of General Blucher - Wellington's ally at Waterloo. The holiday snaps continue...

    Nyhavn

After a day (or more) at sea, we arrived in Copenhagen. We walked from the ship to the city centre and then to Nyhavn which is a district surrounding a canal. The area is full of people, boats, stalls and restaurants and lots of colour. Here's two images from our visit. One side of the bridge...
