Hi Gary, I've read both and much preferred Cleghorn's offering, would definitely recommend that you pick it up, it contains much less ego and much more substance IMHO.
I'm no expert but I think it's just a question of getting somewhere with as little light pollution as possible (I used this Google Earth overlay to find the best spot) and then letting in as much light as possible. The settings that worked for me on a D700 were f/2.8, ISO800 and a 30s exposure.
I'm no studio photographer but they all look a touch underexposed to me. Best to avoid two catchlights as in no. 5 as it tends to make them look dazed.

For most of them it was an umbrella'd SB-900 key (+CTO) with a gobo'd sb80-dx for separation. For 8 and 10 I added an umbrella'd SB-600 just above the camera for fill.
