    DPOTY 2024 - Chat thread

I am pleased to say that today, just thirteen days after hatching, all three of my blackbird chicks have fledged and left the greenhouse safely. The nest has been removed and close inspection reveals why they don't use the nest again as there were tiny maggots underneath, presumably living off...

    Short trip insurance

I found that adding expensive items to household insurance is not usually cost effective as individual items -- often above £500 -- need to be listed separately and an expensive DSLR and lens would have to be listed as separate items and the cost starts to mount. I'm with Eversure, it cost me...

I have one of those, I cut my finger on it; they are really sharp!!! (No, I did not put my finger through the holes to see if it hurt).

    DPOTY 2024 - Chat thread

Well I've put my picture in for April. I've tried all sorts to get a picture of a bird trying to get a worm. Originally I dug a round hole in the ground with my GoPro in the bottom and baited the edge of the hole with seeds and things, hoping the bird would look down into the hole. I even tried...

Nooo, not that!!! No one said worm's eyes could focus up that close. WEV by Martin Baxter, on Flickr

So much choice , how do you pick

If you are looking to take quick pics when out walking do not overlook the Micro Four Thirds format. Smaller sensor than APC but that means smaller camera and lenses too and unless you are going to crop to ridiculous levels or print on a wall, you'll not notice the difference between the smaller...

    DPOTY 2024 - Chat thread

Ah, the machinations of a forum, any forum, are not for us to know. Our purpose is to submit [images] and not question our overlords!

I sent it to my wife, her correct reply was immediate; how bloody annoying is that?!

That took me a couple of hours to get it

    If you weren't sure before...

In the past I've sold quite a bit of stuff to WEX and the only time they've reduced the price quoted was when they contacted me and said that a lens I sent in had a faulty manual focus ring, which might well have been the case because I never used manual focus on it; it was also a cheapo DX lens.

Must be Cornwall. Grim, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

    If you weren't sure before...

Just tried Park as per your suggestion. Must be the lens is just not at all desirable as they offered me £415, £71 less than WEX! It stays with me now, I'll just rethink how I'm going to make more use of it.

    If you weren't sure before...

I have a mirrorless camera in the form of an Olympus E-M10, it is quite dinky and fits in my coat pocket, but I'll never go 'big' mirrorless instead of DSLR now as I really couldn't justify the cost at my age, I shall keep my D850, and now, it seems, my short-zoom Sigma lens. It was only a...

    If you weren't sure before...

I decided I might extend my collection of MFT lenses and thought I might trade in a DSLR lens that I really don't use enough, to wit, a Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG Nikon fit. Last January 2023 I bought the lens new for £1269, it is in mint condition. Today, I got a quote from WEX for a trade-in value...
