I was looking for a 70-300 lens to replace the Sigma 70-300 macro that I had. After reading reviews and asking questions on here I settled for the Tamron 70-300 VC which I must say is a brilliant lens.
A lot of people say that the VC is better than Nikons VR!
Picked up mine in the classifieds on...
I think the main one to fail is the XF1 with it's 'lens control' error! Mine failed within a year and was fixed by Fuji at no cost luckily.
Not used it for a while as I tend to use the D7100 but it's very handy to stick in a pocket when going out.
I think you can get Nikon View NX2 for free via download http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/viewnx2/ and this allows you to transfer and make adjustments to pictures.
Another free one that I have used is Gimp.
I have the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro and also the NIKON 55-200. i find that the Nikon is the sharper of the 2 but you don't get the reach of the Sigma. I would say that the Nikon is faster to focus as well and the Sigma is a bit noisy!
My sigma is the DG APO Macro. Think they are about £90 new? It's a bit sharper after f8 but that's not much use on the dull days we're getting at the moment.
