Apple have announced that Aperture is now dead

b*****ks, at least I'll still have the RAWs minus the editing, which there wasn't much of anyway, but having to migrate 20,000 photos is going to be right pain in the arse. Add to that I've just invested in Logic, which I can see going the same way. Ok, Apple have said that no other "pro" apps...

Apple IMac or windows computer? Your thoughts pls!!

Both are equally capable so go with whichever one you're already familiar with as it'll save having to learn a new OS.

    Struggling with Mac OSX Finder

Dragging and dropping onto the same volume will result in the file being moved - the file disappears from its original location and appears in its new location Dragging and dropping onto the same volume while holding the option (alt) key down will copy the file - the file will remain in its...

    iPhone won't restore properly

I believe that the problem is actually on the backup. Some database entry in the past has probably got screwed, but still ended up being backed up. I've had this once where some song wouldn't play properly or at all. Restoring from the backup just brought the problem back. The solution was to...

Best Way to copy DVDs to Laptop/iPad

On it's own handbrake can no longer rip copy protected DVDs. It will however if you install VLC as handbrake can then use ibdvdcss package that comes with VLC At least that's how it was a year and a half ago when I last ripped a DVD Actually here's some more current info...

    Ever increasing ISO range

They have already been used in at least two DSLRs that I can think of, the Nikon D40 (not the 40x) and the Nikon D70 which is how they achieved the incredible 1/500 flash sync speed that they have. It was a hybrid mechanical/electronic shutter affair. Subsequent models unfortunately dropped this...

    Nikon Df....First images

I find this type of thing be something of an anachronistic curiosity if I'm going to be totally honest. I can see the attraction of such a thing, but I can't see that any pro or serious amateur would choose this for doing actual work as the "proper controls", as some of you refer to them, would...

Any point in shooting in RAW if i dont tweak the image?

It really depends on what you want. If you're the type that basically "gets it right in camera" and do very little PP then arguably high quality JPEG may well suffice for your needs. That said the RAW is effectively a digital negative that can't be altered (well theoretically it can, but that's...

    Question for the Smokers here...

1 - Yes, generally. I only switch if my preferred brand is not in stock. (Rolling tobacco) 2 - I'm happy with the taste 3 - Nothing, other than my preferred brand ceasing to be produced 4 - Yes 5 - Not bothered really 6 - Makes no difference to me.

    The New Doctor ...

Man up, and pull yourself together ;) I never really got on with Matt Smith as the doctor - actually if I'm being truthful I never got on with any of the doctors since Tom Baker. It'll be interesting to see an older guy take on the role, as I see the doctor as an eccentric wise older man...

The reciprocal-of-the-focal-length rule for hand holding

The reciprocal rule (or guideline really) was originally a way of getting an acceptable sharpness for a given standard print size - I can't remember the actual print size. If any enlargement is to be done then a faster shutter speed would be more appropriate. Obviously this would vary from...

What you listening to RIGHT now?

John Martyn - Solid Air. If you live your life without hearing this album then you will have missed something special.

    mac or pc for editing

Put simply OS overhead and library/API/driver efficiencies. Some things work a bit faster on the Mac as a result of having more efficient library/API/drivers for a particular task. Equally the same is true of Windows, some things will work faster in windows despite the hardware being equal. A...

    mac or pc for editing

Makes no difference these days. If you're used to windows then stick with what you know. Virtually all the major software used in photographic workflows is available for both systems. The software that is only available on one system or the other is generally not so important.
