Answered Can't view threads in Hot Topics

Trying to view any thread in Hot Topics I get the above message. I can access Hot Topics but clicking on any thread gives the above error. I've checked that I'm logged in and that my preferences are set to include Hot Topics. Everything worked as normal yesterday and I haven't changed anything...

    Windows 10 Update 2004

Final report back: it's now finished undoing all the changes made to my computer and I've started it normally and shut it down again with everything working normally. Thanks for the warning Steve, I'll look at that tomorrow.

    Windows 10 Update 2004

Thanks Matt. I did a hard off and turned it back on to find that it's now undoing all the changes made to my computer. Fortunately it has no data on it as I only use it for web browsing with data all stored on my desktop (backed-up onto a NAS and external HDD). As you may have gathered this is...

    Windows 10 Update 2004

Thanks for all the help so far. I left it running overnight and it's still on 89% after something like 18 hours so I guess it's broken. Any further suggestions welcome:)

    Windows 10 Update 2004

Windows started updating to version 2004 at about 09:30 but seems to have been stuck on 89% complete for the last few hours. Is this the normal behaviour for updating Windows installed on a laptop with an old-fashioned HDD? Should I just leave it to continue or should I intervene in some way...

    The virus. PPE. Part 1

After reading the Metro article on Johnson's plummeting approval rating I noticed another dealing with the petition to support Cummings keeping his job (https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/25/four-people-have-signed-petition-dominic-cummings-keep-job-12755871/). Apparently it had, at that time, received...

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I watched How To Build British: Bentley on Channel 4 last night and was a little amused when the chap explaining the leather they use told us that they don't use that from female bulls as it always has lots of stretch marks.

    Nikon Capture NX-D keeps freezing

Jon, this sounds similar to a problem I have with it: every so often it locks up when I click to convert a NEF file to TIF and I also have to shut it down and restart it. A Google search didn't produce any solutions, or even any recent mentions. It had been a problem for me before the recent...

    Is it worth it

Sorry to be pedantic but he was actually executed by a firing squad on board HMS Monarch on 14 March 1757.

Another company profiteering from the coronavirus

According to Wikipedia it was actually introduced by John Major in 1992. However, it was then embraced by Gordon Brown as he believed that "...the public sector is bad at management, and that only the private sector is efficient and can manage services well." Seems like a statement I've heard...

    The virus. PPE. Part 1

Looking at the relative sizes of populations and accepting the number of Intensive Care beds you quote: Germany Population - 83.7m (March 2020) Intensive Care beds -28,000 Approximately 3,000:1 England Population - 56.0m (ONS, June 2018) Intensive Care beds -4,000 Approximately 14,000:1...

    The virus. PPE. Part 1

Your stats are wrong and overstate the figure by about 92%. The figure given by Theresa May on 22 February 2017 was 25,000 but the actual number was about 26,000 between 2003/04 and 2009/10...
