Hi I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the apple lightening SD card reader. I was thinking of getting this to use with my new 32gb iPad mini when I'm traveling to back up my shots.
I know I'm probably only looking at about 16gb of storage unless i delete almost everything off the iPad but if I'm selective with what I keep I think it would be about enough for what i need. I use a 550D shooting in RAW. Would be a lot easier and less hassle to take this with me than my macbook but I wanted to know what experiences people here had with it.

We've the original camera connection kit for the iPad and both work a treat, the SD connector works seamlessly and the USB connector allows me to plug in a CF card reader to it.

The only thing I might try in the future, is a short extension cable between the iPad and connector - it can be a bit of a pain as it's stuck in at the bottom of the iPad and I'm worried about catching it / not the best potion to leave it connected, whereas a short cable (presuming they make one) would allow it to be to one side...

I have/use the Apple card reader with my iPad Air 32gb.

Very pleased with it. Works quickly and efficiently when taking Jpegs BUT transferring RAW files takes a real age AND uses up an awful lot of memory.

I now carry larger (64 & 32gb) cards. If taking RAW I download later onto desktop or MacBook . Jpegs I'll do there and then.

I'd rather get this instead.

What is that? I'm guessing it's not official. I thought the biggest problem with non official products and lightening is that an update can't render them useless?
I use unofficial stuff that are labeled compatible with iOS7. They're equivalent to $3 so if iOS 8 breaks em then no problem buy a new $3 cable

Which is fair enough but I think an iOS 7.x update can render the useless which is guaranteed to be 2 days before I need to actually use it.
