My first Hairy Dragonfly of the year. The weather conditions deteriorated when I got to the site and I had to use fill-flash at -2 stops to overcome the backlighting. This close-up clearly shows why it is called "Hairy". Thanks for looking.

How on earth did you get this close? Suspect its not a crop but advise otherwise!

They are normally so skittish for me.

Excellent shot and is one hairy beast.

Thanks Bryn. This one had just emerged and hadn't taken it's maiden flight yet. About 1 minute after this shot it flew.

Excellent shot Mark
is this a stack ?

:exit:

Thanks Tony. No, not a stack - I have never managed to master that technique and I'm dead jealous of those here who post stunning macro shots using stacking!

Great shot! The Hairy Dragonflies are the first reported Dragonfly this flight season and should be followed soon by the Broad-bodied Chasers.

Numerous Large Red Damselflies (which are actually quite small) have been seen and photographed.

I run a facebook group called 'UK Dragonflies & Damselflies' (if you fancy joining there is no obligation to post there but you can just enjoy).
