Evening all
am seriously considering getting CC as it's £8 a month at the moment
Am at the moment using Lightroom 5 and elements also an older version of photoshop

One thing that looks good is that it syncs across different devices
I'm using a windows 7 PC as my main editing machine and also use a macbook retina pro with mavericks for when I'm out and about
I've also got a ipad
apparently cc will sync the files across all of these and you can even do some lightroom editing on an ipad

how well does this actually work in practice ?
I'm hoping that if I do any editing on my macbook or ipad if I open lightroom on my pc it will pick up the changes to the pictures
at the moment my mac doesn't see the pc on my network and have to physically copy the files across via a usb drive

I've been using it now for about 18 months & it works well across my Macs & iPad. Each update & the latest CC2014 makes the system seamless & better.

Thanks Peter
how does the sync actually work ?
does it automatically copy the lightroom catalogue to the devices or do you have to physically copy the files onto the ipad or mac
Sorry I'm not very computer minded and I'm on nights so brain isn't working too well!

I've just purchased it... trying to learn PS at the moment so though £8 isn't bad. Though bet price shoots up next year!

Care to explain what isn't true then?

Sure.

1. You can no longer buy a stand alone version of PS. Sure you can still buy CS6 but that is now an old version.
2. Program's are installed on your PC and are not removed when you stop paying. PS will stop working but lightroom will continue to allow you access to your library and also allow you to export your images. The develop module will be disabled but you will still be able to use the quick develop tools in the library module. Sure the main part of the software will stop, but you won't suddenly loose access to your images.

If you were to purchase PS and Lightroom, this would cost you around £800-£900 ( based on around (£600-£700 for PS and £200 for LR). That's equivalent to +/- 100 months of subscription but you would still have to pay more money in a couple of years for upgrades. The subscription gives you constant updates.

Even if you never wanted to upgrade your software, eventually OS updates would force you to. As OS technology improves so older program's will stop working.

I know there is a lot of assumption that Adobe will suddenly double the price next year but do people really think Adobe is that stupid?

You can still buy a Standalone Photoshop Elements which is around £50 , Adobe Lightroom which is £99 on WEX Photographic and loads of other places and the CS range here from adobe here : http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/ca...l_software_sl_creativesuite6.html?PID=3160356

Even if they aren't removed it still stops working so pretty much becomes useless, I personally don't like the idea of all this cloud stuff and these subscriptions would prefer just the normal software but I can see it will more than likely switch all over to the cloud in the near future, Only time will tell...

Personally don't like the idea of this Cloud stuff and paying out all the time, and when you stop paying it removes the programs! Rather buy a Standalone Copy instead one off payment and its there for ever

I see what you're getting at Joe but I have already made the decision to get CC for me its an affordable way of getting the full version of photoshop and I can always go back to where I am now with lightroom elements and CS2 if my circumstances change
what I want to know is how the sync works I have googled it but can't get my head around how how it works
I would rather the thread discussed this and what people's opinions of the new CC program
I think that I'll just give it a try when I've finished upgrading my PC

But your subscription does not get you £50 photoshop elements. You get Photoshop which was a £600-£700 piece of software.

If you are happy with PSE then there is no need to sign up to CC

I use it on my PC along with Adobe PS touch on my Android tablet and phone (all sync together). For the price you just cant argue. I've been using it for over a year. Its the future and its not going to change, so might as well embrace it :)

People quibble over the price of software but what you get for the price is amazing value for money and to be honest if it cost £20 pm it would still be great value.

I also notice you linked to the CS6 software on Adobe. Photoshop CS6 is £660 for 3-4 year old software. That would give you 82.5 months (6 years, 10 months) of CC subscription at the cost of a few pints of larger per month and the software stays up to date.

Also bear in mind that Photoshop was upgraded every couple of years so based on 6 years and 10 months lets say you upgraded 2 times to stay current. That would have cost you another £600

I bought my copy of CS6 from here.
Half the Adobe direct price, why pay £660?
A lot of people say they will keep CS6 for as long as they can, since it does everything they need.
Adobe have also said they will continue to update camera raw for CS6 users for the foreseeable future, although I prefer Lightroom for raw development.

I subscribe to the whole thing and its great. No more having to wait 2 years for new features. As soon as they're ready they release an update.
I think its the way all software will eventually go. Microsoft office365 also has the same subscription system.

I have no problem paying my £8 pm for all the benefits that CC and Lightroom give me. And without the subscription, I wouldn't be able to use Lightroom Mobile on my ipad which I find invaluable on the go.

Given that the majority of people probably only use about 20% of Photoshop's capacity (and I include myself in that number) I can't help wondering what these "new features" are that people are waiting for.
This surely is the reason for adopting CC, so that Adobe can maximise their regular income, rather than relying on the future sales of new versions, with progressively fewer enhancements.
I have seen a number of users who have said they will continue to use CS6 for as long as it will run, simply because it does everything they need.

No matter what programs adopt the CC licensing method, there will always be companies ready to provide an alternative, which can often be free or Open Source.
I no longer use Microsoft Office, having replaced it with Open Office, which is not only free, but completely compatible, and offers more features than the MS version.

I dislike the thought of being held to ransom by companies demanding a regular payment to use their products.
I prefer to be able to choose whether I use a particular program or not.

I subscribed to CC about 2 months ago I find it works well across the ipad app though for me I don't use the feature much

The rent versus buy option for me was buy LR update which I needed anyway and get PS for next to nothing.

I don't have the skill sets much for PS but the lens correction tools and filters are much better for me

If we took all items of photography only on need I guess I would have a Polaroid but it's my main hobby so a little discretionary spending seems ok.

I also convert on import all raw files into DNG so if I ever quit its easy to still accesses my images

One word of caution from my install was allow plenty of time even though I have a decent download speed it took ages maybe 4 hours for PS

I tried CC 2014 and they've changed the font size used in menus - it's much smaller than it was in CC and I hate it.

Below: left is CC, right is CC 2014.

Can't you just press "CTRL" & "+" to enlarge it in the normal way?

Would LR CC allow things to sync between my iMac and MBP? If so, what does it sync? That alone would be worth moving to CC.

No, that only enlarges the image you're working on - it has no effect on the menus.

The screengrabs in post 23 are larger than actual size so they don't really show the problem - CC 2014's menu font is insanely small.

My advice would be to ignore CC 2014 and get CC 14.2 instead (if that's possible).

That was what I was wondering
am hoping that it will sync between my pc macpro and ipad

No regrets going CC even tho' I have full PS CS4 application ... just felt it was time to upgrade to the full works and actually the price is just about right, about £2.20/week is very fair for a serious photographer.

Nobody has yet answered the OP's original question about syncing. What is / isn't synced?

Your files aren't synced - you save them to 'the cloud' so you work on the same file on whatever device you log in on.

It is your settings, presets etc that are synced:-

Thanks Jim thats brilliant that's what I wanted to know
clear.png

so i can work on a shot on the mac while Im on holiday and then carry on on the PC when i get back for example

Marc - just to be clear, are those screengrabs of CC and CC 2014?

If so, what are the actual version numbers (in Help>About Photoshop)?

Those are exactly the same version numbers as for my post 20 (and below) - so it can't be an update.

You're on a Mac though (I'm on PC) - it obviously doesn't affect Mac versions.
