Adsl and dect phones

Hi there, I'm usually pretty good at resolving things like this, but I'm stumped.

Whenever someone in the house is using the landline I have no internet. For me, this one of two things. Either interference on 2.4ghz, or the adsl filter(s)

With former, I have ruled this out, since when the internet goes off I get the router flash up instantly and say it's not connected to the internet. This says to me that the device is still communicating wirelessly, but its the router that can't see the phone line.

This then points to item 2, however I only have two connections to the landline, which is skybox and dect phone. The issue is still there if I disconnect the sky box, and I've tried 3 different filters into where the phone is plugged in. FYI the router and phone are both into the same phone socket, and it's also the same master socket.

I'm away to buy a new phone, but does anyone have any ideas before I start buying stuff in desperation?

Does sound like a filter issue.

Fwiw I've been having a similar issue on my sky broadband recently where the phones will disconnect the Internet (amongst other Internet disconnects) despite the filters being good. Line tests come back clear too. It's frustrating.

I remember my ADSL being affected by a sky box a few years ago (it pretty much halved my sync speed) as it used to be the norm for engineers to plug them into a phone socket even though it served no real purpose. Pulling the plug solved the problem luckily. I've been using a voip landline since getting broadband so no risk of any interference like from a "traditional" phone.

some of the older sky boxes you had to double filter because they were so damn noisey.

Once you're out of your first 12 months you can unplug them anyway (unless you have multiroom). It's used initially to be able to cut your viewing if you don't pay. And for multiroom it's to make sure you don't give cheap sky to your mate.

Luckily Sky have done away with the whole "phone line" nonsense as everything is done over wifi rather than a phone line, although I suspect legacy sky boxes without wifi might still need a phone line for multiroom or box office.

Also broardband ADSL can work on one cable ( slower than normal) where as a phone needs two ( a pair) normally White Blue & Blue White

This might help, it might not!!
I remember when I had an issue with my broadband, one of the things they got me to check was removing the face plate from the phone socket, and underneath it was a master socket.. (Or something along those lines). I was then able to plug the filter in there and it resolved the issue. (Faulty faceplate). Am no landline phone expert so don't know if everyone has same setup or not.

Try this first - assuming you have a newish master socket that has the lower half removable. The in-house extension wiring is wired off the bit of the master socket that is removable. If you have no issues when you remove the faceplate, but do with it still in place, it is your wiring within the house. If you have an issue with the faceplate removed it is either an issue with the modem in your router being too sensitive or an issue with the wiring back to the exchange. Other things to check include plugging in an old-fashioned wired phone in place of the DECT phone. This removes the DECT signal as cause of the problem. Also (and just to check) EVERYTHING that is plugged into the phone line needs a filter on it - not just the ADSL modem.

At the end of the day, you have to figure out if it is the router, house wiring or OpenReach's wiring that is at fault before calling out an engineer - unless you have lots of money to pay others to do the basic fault finding....

Right, new mkii master socket arrived yesterday, fitted straight away, and low and behold, internet and phone used at the same time in perfect harmony.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

My down/ upload speeds are exactly as they were 7mb/0.4mb, but the huge delay ( is it called latency?) has pretty much vanished.

Thanks for all the help people (y)
