Ploughing my through 300 odd raw files from my hols down in Cornwall the other week... It was a family day out at Fowey not that you can tell mind ....

Going for something a bit different (for me) pp wise so thought i'd offer a few up here for critique as I think i'm going pixel blind looking at these over and over and wondering if i'm just wasting my time.

Any C&C good or bad is welcome.

All sharp, all well composed. PP not obtrusive and fits in well. Great memory shots.

That's a nice collection of pictures. The PP is reminiscent of under-exposed colour neg film, so a good match for many holiday images from a previous generation.

In focus yes but looking a little washy......
With the equipment now available and Gimp/Lightroom etc,etc
I'd not be very happy with these but.....
We all see things differently and this might work for you.
Sorry

Thanks Ady.

Thanks. I have been admiring the film look recently. Whilst out shopping with the missus I looked at advertising posters in shops etc and have liked the film look.

That's ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion, it would be a bit boring if everyone had the same thought.

These were all raw files edited in lightroom/photoshop. I appreciate the washed out/matte look is not for everyone. I like it on my background and not on the subject. I started doing my normal clean editing on these but fancied a change and felt it fitted in with the pictures I took that day. I have hundreds more to go through but I know I wont be using this style of pp on them as I don't think it will be fitting.........well I may try a few to see :)

Thanks for looking and taking time to comment.

I quite like the PP, No 3 being my favourite, It is pure candid but lack a little sharpness especially around her eyes for my taste

I have edited the image to add a little Smart Sharpen around 15%

My Edit

I shall of course remove if you're not happy

I like that Lez, I did think the eyes were a little soft. If I'd have had this open in photoshop I would have sharpened the eyes using the high pass filter.

I've heard good things about smart sharpen, is it what you use most of the time?

Yes smart sharpen or unsharp mask Dan, much more precise than a high pass filter

I used unsharp mask selectively on the foremost girl and cloned out the white letters left of shot in this one

Nice edit, I like that. Thanks. :)

See, I've always used the high pass selectively, stuck in my ways I guess. I have used unsharp mask a few times but will give smart sharpen ago too.

always worth exploring options in PP Dan, you never know what you'll come up with :D

But that was the whole idea of the PP surely??

I think they're nice mate, the PP is a nice style. Well done.

Thanks mate.

they are all nice moments. Something to consider when shooting is any writing in an image will be a distraction, unless it adds to the shot - old man walking past a shop window that say 'last few days' for example, or an advertorial image.
The walking away shot at the end, would have been stronger if you gave each person room, there is a bunch of bodies on one side and one lone body on the other, make them feel more like a unit. I know, easy to say esp when you are capturing candid stuff. But it is something to consider/look for next time.
ps the first is a great expression!
