Llyn Nantlle blue hour

Having never visited Nantlle I had it planned in my head I was going to do a sunrise there sunday morning. well I woke up unassisted by the alarm and with a raging headache at 3.30am so up I got and out I went. Stopped at Ogwen to take a few MW shots on the way across but wasn't over keen on any of them.
It was clear it was not going to be a colourful sunrise due to the sheer lack of clouds, but with no wind and a fair bit of mist lingering there was still a chance of capturing something. Well I rocked up at about 5.45am to a mirror calm lake and patchy mist flowing across it. The composition has been done a lot but this was my take on it during the blue hour as the light slowly begins to break through behind the peaks and the last segment of the moon reflects off the water.

Where did you get that water from? Not a ripple! (well a few to the left). I was there Last Thursday evening (I think it was).
Thats is a fantastic shot, the light is fantastic, i bet when you saw the result you thought it was well worth the early start. The reflections are beautiful and i love the moon and its reflection its exceptional!
Well done Richie, that has to be destined to hang on the wall!!

Cheers Steve :). Its a stunning place isn't it?. Those "ripples" to the left is actually small bits of weed breaking the surface in a very shallow area. I was actually out in the water in my boots and every time I moved I had to wait for the ripples to fade away before I could take another shot haha. The moon was beautiful. It was only about 5-10% but you could see the rest of the shadow perfectly which you can see in the full screen version of this shot. At the time I wasn't sure how this had come out but I was very happy once I had it up on the screen at home. The only difficulty was choosing one of the 100+ shots I took to use lol :)

I spent last week in Snowdonia, unfortunately i had my 84 year old Father in Law with me, which pretty much quashed any walking and much photography:(.
I was determined to get something, I had passed Llyn Nantle earlier in the week and logged its location in my small brain cell. When i sneaked off one evening to get some shots, someone had moved it (i think it was Kevin). I finally got there as the sun started to set, it was a rush to set up (as usual), but now i think you have gazumped me with this truely stunning shot.

I forgot my boots! I stood on those michaelmas daisies on the left and found it was actually the outflow river! Even the Sheep glared in amazment at some bloke trousers rolled up paddling in the Llyn. They probably thought for every 10 photographers that turn up here, there's always one Idiot!

Its always difficult to see exactly what it is looking like till you get it up on the screen isnt it..... I thought i was bad taking 50 shots;), but the end result was stunning Rich you must be very pleased.

Well done, thanks for showing us how its done!

I'll Be Back!

Wonderful, and a good choice from your 100+(i hate doing that!)

Just curious.....

Which lens length was used to shoot this stunning capture.....? It looks like a 28mm length or maybe a 35mm....??

Glad you shot loads of images of this, that's what I do, if you feel it's going to be a stunner take loads of it, under/over expose so you've vast choice.

Get that professionally printed and hung up on your wall, stand back and be hugely proud.

Really, really like this. Love the composition, the boats really contribute to a strong image. The light is fab. Great tones, great control. If I'd taken this it would get printed, framed and hung :)

Thanks guys. And yeah. I like to ask the wife for an opinion but she's more indecisive than me lol

Hahaha, excellent Steve. can just imagine you paddling about by the outlet :). Im a nightmare for snapping away. Like to make sure ive got every base covered for every iso and aperture lol. Hopefully you will be able to return soon then and put in a few miles on foot to find some of Wales hidden gems in the valleys or mountains. Im a very lazy photographer and would love to put more time in making a proper day of exploring.

It will certainly be going in a frame thanks Peter :).

as for the lens. It was a Zeiss 21mm distagon. I have cropped it a little so that would probably add to the fact it looks more like a 28mm :)

absolutely stunning :jawdrop:

nice

Cracking shot... It's a stunning location for photos. (y)

It's a shame that the jetty's gone now though.

Beautiful shot Rich well worth the early start and the headache!

Love it !! Well worth the early start and headache I must say.
That's one superb image. The blue tones are sublime and that slither of mist on the lake is just to die for.
A spot close to my heart, you certainly have done it justice, I was out the other side same time visiting Llynnau Mymbyr.
The only bad point with that image is the fact I didn't take it, absolute stunner, well done Rich.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. I've had a lot of pretty poor trips
Out recently that have resulted in no keepers so it's nice to finally get a good shot :).
@Kevin O'Brian. I'm very jealous of you if you are lucky enough to live near here or visit regularly. The whole area has so much beauty and potential for photography. I genuinely can't wait to return and have another go :)

This is one of those images that, as soon as I opened the thread, I said "Oh!" out loud.
Absolutely stunning. Well done you.
