I am on a roll today with news stuff........just been listening to the various political parties rant and rave about their promises (LIES!) to convince us poor mortals to give them our vote......what I can't understand is why these so called promises take so long to come to fruition......e.g. higher threshold for basic tax and raised tax levels for higher tax payers but not until 2020 or maybe 2018 if we are lucky........ and even then the average worker is less than £500 better off but with inflation that will be even less:confused:

Would they not get more votes by promising something they can deliver year on year starting as soon as they move into number ten.......just saying

cos 2020 is after the next election so they won't actually have to deliver .. duh , if they said we'll do this by next year people might actually expect them to do something.

general rule of thumb , how do you tell if a politician is lying to you ... his lips are moving

Whatever happened to the no politics ( or religion ) rules?

he's not talking about politics - he's talking about politicians of all hues being a bunch of lying s***ehouses. The no politics rle is supposed to be no arguing one party is better than another, not saying they are all doublebent

I thought politics was banned?????
If it was there would have been no Free Scotland (with 4 gallons of 4* :p)
The admin have taken the view that as long as there are no personal attacks,
party pimping and the threads are "balanced" , then the rules, (just like in the classified section)
will be relaxed until further notice, or the abuse starts.

Potatoe potatoe.

The old rule definately had politics and religion in the prohibited list. Just wondering why they'd been removed that's all.

I like their optimism...

A really, really big mistake!

:D

But make no mistake (everyone)
These threads are monitored and transgressors will be publicly flogged.
( I did also suggest hung drawn and quartered, but there appears to be something in the bill of human rights about that :( )

even in the old days it was more about the spirit of the rules than the letter, politics being banned didn't mean no one could ever mention it, just that political threads that got out of hand or looked like they might, got closed.

Yep ;)
And that still applies today, but with a slightly more relaxed attitude.

:D

I feel their privy parts should be burnt in front of them as well

Sounds like a game of thrones scene

that was the original punishment for treason

'to be hung by the neck but while you still breathed to have your privy parts cut off and burnt in front of you, and your guts drawn from your body, before having the body cut into quarters and disposed of in the thames and so denied a Christian burial. '

generally most kings weren't sadistic enough to go through with it though and if the traitor was a noble he'd generally have the sentence commuted to death by beheading

I read the title in Agnes Brown's voice

Tickled me, that is all :p

That's hanged, not hung!Steve.
Surely some one is hung by the neck, not hanged by the neck?
I was talking past tense not present ;)

However, who(m) ever is right,
There is a fair chance the sun will rise in the east, in the morning and
fire and brimstone will not rain down on the other person (y)

No! A painting is hung. I'm no painting but I too am hung.

You and your sort, however, should be hanged by the neck for your crimes in the past tense!

He must have been really happy then - bet he laughed all the way to the block :D:LOL:

And there I was thinking it was about a ball of twine

Reminds me of a conversation in an office, years ago...

Manager: So, how long is it going to take?
Worker: Well, how long is a piece of string?
Manager: Twice the length from its middle to one end.
Worker: Erm, yeah, ok, is the end of the week ok?

Finally someone who understands the importance of good grammar :D

^ What he said!
Steve.
I still don't get it, you hang a painting you don't hung it, or it can be hung.
Don't see why a person should be any different.
However.......

I was right, that' s one less thing for me to worry about :D

I thought you were going to say "I bet he laughed his head off".

The statutory penalty dates from the C14th, for high treason, although it was occasionally used in the C13th. AFAIK, it was unknown before that. There's still some controversy about the meaning of 'drawn', and whether it referred to drawing the intestines from the body - as you would when cleaning game birds/poultry - or drawing the accused to the scaffold on a hurdle, which also formed part of the entertainment. Women were burned at the stake, to avoid the inevitable 'indecent exposure' associated with the sentence.

Beheading was considered a more honourable death than hanging, and was more merciful in the days when condemned men and women strangled slowly on the gallows. The nobility and gentry were usually sent to the block, but couldn't count on it if they were convicted of high treason, and many were hung, drawn and quartered. Some did have their sentences changed to beheading, as you say, but the monarch could also instruct the executioner to let them hang until dead, and carry out the rest of the sentence posthumously.

i find nothing more frightening (apart from gordon brown that is) than being ruled by this old etonian mob .many years ago when i lived in the area ,my first wife came from windsor i used to witness there antics first hand the ingrained superiority complex they have ,the fact that its instilled in them they are born to rule and if one makes it somewhere he has to get all the rest of the club/gang in is very frightening indeed .
BEWARE THE ETONIANS THE DEADLIEST CREATURES ON THE PLANET
