Yes
I logged on to the Mifsuds website and noticed that they accept trade-ins.
I emailed them and was offered £1150 for my pristine, low mileage 1D3 against a new 7D.
I am happy enough with that although I think it could be worth around £1250-£1300 if I sold it privately.
Has anyone used Mifsuds and are they reputable enough?
They have been on the go for a long time so I guess I may know the answer :-D

Mike

I have used Mifsuds several times but not to trade in kit, only for buying 2nd hand kit.

I have never had any problems with dealing with them and they are always friendly and helpful

Yup, I've used them with no problems at all and I'd be happy to use them again.

Yes, I sold my D3x to them. I've also used them a number of times for purchases.

Theyre very good - only ever had one problem and that was just a difference of opinion of what Very Good condition meant. They returned the money and I was happy after that.

Spent a few grand with them in the past... always happy with them :)

it might be worth checking with MPB to see if they'll offer you more, but that aside i'd say go for it - ive used both before and both are proffesional and helpful

Have traded in and all was fine, though I'm not positive that they give the best allowance.

spent lots of cash with them, great company to deal with

I used to work there years ago, don't forget that as with cars for example they'll want to make a profit on your old camera since it'll be their money tied up in it whilst it sits on a shelf, they advertise it and demonstrate it to potential customers and they'll have to offer a warranty with that.

Used them to trade in and bought stuff from them, no problems. MPBphotograhic may be worth contacting to attain a quote.

I've bought and traded with them. Good to deal with. I've compared them to Grays of Westminster on trade-in and they both offer about the same amount of money so take your pick whichever one you want to use. I've had good experiences with both.

If you are buying something used, check prices with both of them. One can be a few hundred pounds from the other I've found. Grays gives you a 12 month warranty on used where Mifsuds gives 3 months. Grays has been slightly cheaper despite of this on a couple of items so again, compare prices.

I bought my 17-55mm f/2.8 from them s/h as they're only an hour or so's drive from my parent's place in Devon. If you're into older stuff the shop is like a gold-mine to walk around, so much kit from such a wide range of manufacturer's/systems. They know what they're on about and friendly and helpful.

I used them and was impressed up until I had a problem with the camera 2 weeks after purchase. They kept telling me to send it back to the manufacturer rather than them and when I insisted they sort out the fault they refused to pick it up or pay for the return until I started quoting the sale of good act.

Anyone can take your money but imo only when a problem occurs do you find out how good a company really is.

Never had any problems with any of the stuff I've bought from them, either new or 2nd hand. they gave me good trade in allowances on the kit I traded with them too.

As always, if you don't like their offer, take the stuff elsewhere and sell it yourself but remember, Mifsuds offer a warranty (IIRC, 3 months on 2nd hand kit) and need to fund that from any profits and may also have a load of dosh tied up in their stock for quite a while before they move it on and rewalize the profit.

I used them some years ago (not to trade) and they were helpful and delivery was fast.

I've bought some filters from them. One was advertised in Ebay as used but was new; only the packaging was slightly damaged and the filter was fine. However, if you are looking to buy any Cokin stuff, you'll buy the same thing from Bristol Cameras for near enough half the price!

Except that the savings from buying at Bristol Cameras aren't worth the shoddy service and headache of trying to get your order corrected by them.

Truly awful company.

I was interested in trading a lens for one of their used offerings recently. they offered only £140 for my Nikon 60mm micro trade in. I declined and sold the lens on a used site for £200. In fairness, they did offer to omit P&P if i did a trade, which would be worth about £20.

I enquired about a tamron 70-200 they had in their used section. A few days later I got a mail saying it was already sold. I then asked about the 2 versions of the sigma 70-200 they also had up on their used listing. Again, a few days later i received an email telling me they were also gone ... but i could buy it new. Gee thanks. I went and bought it at a much lower price from a German shop on ebay.

they will respond, I'll give them that. but the prices they offer for your used goods are low, and their listings are unreliable.

A site for the more patient perhaps. If you don't mind waiting days between responses only to be let down by the fact they don't actually half of what they say they do in stock.

Thanks for all the replies Folks
My 1D3 has gone - now replaced with a new 7D.
Practically a straight swap and a CF card thrown in.

Only annoyance (not Mifsuds fault) was that I had to pay £25 RMSD to send the 1D3 to Mifsuds and £10 for the 7D to be sent to me.

You might buy it but unlikely to receive it, in my experience they rarely have in stock that which they sell you and you have to chase to either get refund or a v late delivery ymmv but I avoid like the plague these days :(

Just an update to say Bristol Cameras finally sorted my original order out, 5 days short of a month after ordering I have all the filters I ordered. Of course, along the way there was a subtle suggestion that they thought I was lying (call to tell them parts of the order are missing, get 'uh huh, we'll ship those out right away', over a week later 'oh, 5 other people didn't get their full order, guess you didn't get yours after all, so we really will ship it out this time', gee, thanks).

Shockingly 'great' service, I'm sure I'll choose them next time I need something, and not just swallow my poverty and accept the £10 extra to buy from a decent vendor like Teamwork. </sarcasm>

(to clarify, that's sarcasm about even remotely considering Bristol Cameras for anything other than voting for 'biggest asshats of the year award', not sarcasm at Teamwork being decent - they truly are)

Well if that's Teamworkphoto.com, in my experience they are just about the most infuriating people to try to do business with (Roundshot VR Drive :bang: and later a boxed copy of Capture One :bonk:).

Thought it was worth resurrecting thsi thread to relay my own recent experience of Mifsuds. They had a D4 advertised at £2799, in Exc++ condition with 7k actuations. Contacted them and asked for a PX price on my (mint condition low mileage) D800. They came back the next day and quoted £1200, which I thought was a bit low but I was considering it. Then I checked the site and the D4 had jumped by £200 to £2999. Queried this and they said supply & demand, blah blah, last one in stock. They also said that the £1200 px allowance was against the higher price, not the lower one. They did say that the D4 'might' still be available at the old price, but only for a straight sale. I decided to go for it and sell the D800 privately.

D4 arrives the next day and its dirty, dusty, scratched and eye-piece in missing! (see pics) I called them and they apologised and said to return it. I asked them to confirm that my refund would include the £25 they charged me for delivery and the £29.60 it would cost me to post back. They said they would. Then the next day they confirm that they've got it back but can only refund the original charge on the credit card (leaving me out of pocket by almost £30. I kicked off at that point, telling them it wasn't acceptable and they backed down. Cheque arrived a few days later.

So - buyer beware. I got all my money back but a lot of faffing about and a complete waste of my time.

What exactly was the problem with that D4? I can't see one. It was described as "Exc++", wasn't it?

I think the problem here is that you haven't learned how to decode dealers' descriptions of used goods. Here's a handy guide.

"Mint" ... Used.
"Mint -" ... Well used.
"Exc ++" ... Beaten up a little bit.
"Exc +" ... Beaten up quite a lot.
"Exc" ... Really beaten up.
"Exc - " ... Don't. Just don't.

The missing eyepiece should have been listed IMO, but the other marks are pretty minor and I wouldn't have objected. It wasn't described as mint!

:agree: and i bet they would have replaced the eyepiece if approached in the right way - ive always found their customer service to be pretty good

Please elaborate!

I recently part exchanged 2 lenses against a used lens they had for sale, unfortunately upon testing the lens I found it to be pretty soft in the corners and not as they'd described , mint - as new.

I contacted Mifsuds the same day and got a response the following morning before they opened. Emails went back and forth and it was obvious they were going to make it as difficult as possible to return the lens.

They said I couldn't collect the lenses that I’d exchanged as they didn't know if they still had them, which I thought strange as they had a 3 hour trading window from when I left the shop to closing. When I questioned this it moved onto they can't access the computer to check the serial numbers. Again I questioned that they only had one of the same lens for sale and none of the other so it should be easy to identify them, I mean we're not talking Amazon/Wex size stores, its a small shop.

So I then asked when’s the best time to come down and they said 3pm the following Monday as thats when the accounts come in so they can access the computer to determine serials. I raised my concerns that they'd sell my lenses by Monday but they never remarked or replied to that issue. Emails went back and forth and to simplify things I said I ok don't want the lenses back, I'll just return the faulty lens for the price you agreed for the lenses. I was told I can't, I'd have to have the lenses back as it's part of the deal, although the actual deal that was agreed to was price matching MPB which offered me a price for an outright purchase, not part exchange.

OK, so I eventually call into the shop a day later to be told they've now sold the lenses which didn't bother me as that's really what I wanted but the lies and underhanded behaviour shows what they're really like.

When I explained to a sales assistant why I was unhappy with the lens and that I was going to check out another copy they said I shouldn't bother, they're all identical, they're made by computers and they'll all be the same so it's not worth it. Unbelievable, someone like that selling and giving advice to customers, it's worrying.

The the bottom line is even though they knew I'd be returning the lens and that the deal was I'd have to have my lenses back they had no intention of adhering to this. They never sold my lenses within that 3 hours of leaving the shop and guess what? They happened to be selling the same lenses the following day as the ones I'd taken in, what a coincidence :)

I ended up buying a brand new one from Amazon for just £15 more than the one I'd returned, so all good in the end but it goes to show they’re happy to take your money but will do their best not give it back.

That doesn't reflect my experience of Mifsuds... found them to be very helpful. And well-priced too.

Reading MPG and Mifsuds reviews I'd go to MPB.
Been looking for a lens, but on Mifsuds they dont appear to have photographs of the actual lenses which is worrying.

I have also been told to look at camera jungle which is Jessops second hand (not checked them out yet)

I've used mifsuds a lot mainly for new gear always a pleasure to use and love going in for a wander around the shop as the wife likes brixhsm for a wander with fish and chips on quay
