Hudl 2 - Any good ?

Having and odd charging issue with mine.

The last two days I've put it on charge (official charger) before going to bed. App apps closed and screen off. Red light lit.

Yesterday it was dead as a dodo, this morning it's really low.

The stAndard charger lead is ridiculously tight in the hudl USB socket. Don't know if that's related.

Will put it on charge at work and see what it does I guess.

Had some charging trouble with my hudl 2 overnight too. As above, apps closed and screen off, red light. Got up this morning and its at 56% and doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. I did the software update yesterday, has this caused it?
Anyway, I've powered it off completely, put it on charge and checked 15 mins later, 67% suddenly so its speeding up considerably.

Actually on hot UK deals a woman who left her hudl charging over night also had problems. At one point hers would not start at all and she contracted or found some support site that told her to do a soft reset (hold power button for over 20 sec) and it came back to life.

So maybe its connected with leaving it charging overnight or to long as I only charge mine for a few hours during the day and its been fine

But the USB port is way to tight....feels like you are going to pull all the hudl guts out when removing plug

interesting. ive had mine on charge at work since i got here and its not progressed from "7% charging". thats trying several different methods, official charger, USB, 3rd party (slightly lower rated) charger.

will try a soft reset.

Mine is now at 96%, seems to charge much quicker when powered off completely which makes sense I guess.
I'll leave it on for last 4% and see how long that takes.

OH dear sounds like you have a duff one. I do turn mine off when I am not using it and charge it during the day (while its off) for a few hours and it always charges fully

it seems to be charging okay at the moment post factory reset. up to 84%.

id rather not keep turning it off if i have to fight it to recognise the SD every time.

will see what tesco say.

Excellent - hope its all sorted

I need to find a way to move apps to the SD card

Don't think you can do that in Android 4.4..... the option was there in 4.2 then they stopped it.....

I switched mine off last night at 79%, so its at 78% this morning on start up.
I think you may have a faulty one though Neil. Mine seems fine apart from that one charging blip...so far anyway!

looking at the battery usage the only big item (other than "screen") is "android os".

interestingly the SD card wasnt "corrupt" on reboot. but i still had to mount it manually.

lets see what the charging does..

Tesco say:

"Dear Neil

Thanks for your reply.

We will need to arrange an exchange of the unit for you in this situation.

You can either call the helpline with your proof of purchase to arrange or we can book it in via email.

[details]

We can normally arrange an exchange to be sent to your home address within 48 hours if we have all of the about infiormation.

Kind regards

I have to say that whatever people think about Tesco they do seem to be pretty good when things go wrong from my experience - lets hope your replacement works as it should Neil - I am thinking about getting a Hudl2 so have been reading this with interest !

yeah to be fair on them, i raised an email tech query with them (work makes that easier than being on the phone) and their responses have been pretty fast.

i certainly seem to be in the minority for faulty HUDL2's from looking on Google..

My 2p... for the money really impressed. Screen is bright and sharp. Photos look great on it. Battery life is not so good and obviously demanding games won't be ultra smooth.

I've had issue with charging and then not starting. Black screen, nothing. Dead. Bit holding power button for a bit and other buttons it came back to life and has worked and charged as it should. So guess there's a bug in software somewhere. I use APEX Launcher, Tesco stuff is gone then and much more customisable :)
