What else but the mighty Deltic Class 55, and yesterday 009 "Alycidon" was out on a railtour from Willington to Cleethorpes via Kings Cross and return.

Seen here on the outward trip.

Exactly, "Flying Scotsman" is a steam locomotive and "THE Flying Scotsman" was/is a collection of coaches forming a Scotland to England rail service.

Incidentally I have no idea why "Alycidon" was sporting "The Flying Scotsman" headboard.

And I always thought that Deltic engines were Delta 18 cylinders. turns out that I was right and wrong - the individual engines are 18 cylinder but each railway engine (I know that should be locomotive!) packs 2 of them so the loco is a 72 piston monster!

The whole consist looked like Jacobs coat of many colours, a disgrace really.

Would have looked miles better with a full rake blue and grey coaches!!!

Loved the sound of Deltics and enjoyed riding behind some of them before they got withdrawn. Was a sad sight seeing them lined up in Doncaster works awaiting the cutters torch...
