Cheers for the comments, they dont seem too dark on my monitor...

EXIF data for #2 is: Manual: 1/50 sec: f7.1: ISO 3200: 40mm

No 2 is very blue, maybe the white balance got altered to tungsten or something, easy fix if you shot raw.

You need to turn down the iso and use a tripod, high iso allows you to shoot by hand in low light, but the quality suffers.

Exif data is helpful to those who would offer advice.

True but there was a gang of us there and setting up a tripod for every shot
wouldnt have been practical as only one other is even remotely interested in
photography. So i chose to live with the noise rather than the earache...
