Taking a dip during the heat on Sunday. I was taking the dragonfly pics when my husband pointed out the Grass snake going across in front of me, so took some quick snaps before it slithered across the log in the last pic:

Never seen one swimming shown on here so a first for me, great find.

You did well to catch these swimming, when ever I've seen them in the water, little but the head has been visible. I have to admit I've become fascinated by these around our local reserve an will be heading back there sometime over the weekend to hopefully photograph a few.

Thanks for sharing (y)

Oooh thanks - so glad you liked them.

Yes, when I have seen them in the water before, its been at a distance, so this was a real treat.

We found a baby Grass snake a couple of years ago at a National Trust place - it was really small and so cute. Great subjects to photograph if you get the chance and I was lucky at the time that I had my macro lens on.

Here are links to the pics if you are interested in them (it looks bigger than it was - it was only about 4 inches long lol):

Nice capture

There are plenty of Adders around where I live- but I hate snakes - so steer well clear of them :help:

Great Shots, one of my most favourite snakes! :)

I dont mind snakes, but obviously I am very wary of adders and when I do see them and able to take any pics, I dont get too close lol.

Yes, they are lovely arent they.

Many thanks for looking and commenting - much appreciated. Glad you liked them.

Lovely pics, never seen a grass snake (or an adder) in the wild but would love to!

I get the shakes when I see an Adder - with or without my camera :bat:

Thanks - well, keep your eyes peeled on hot sunny days, thats when you are most likely to see one (most probably a grass snake).

Right place and right time with a good set of shots.... and no camera shake even though it's non-venomous :D

Thanks - yes, it certainly was. Nah, no camera shake (or hand shakes) when I see them, they really dont bother me (as long as they arent under my nose lol).

LOL - if you are at a distance, they are fine, but I do admit to not wanting to get too close to adders. At Pulborough Brooks RSPB reserve there are a couple of areas where the adders can often be seen. On one occasion a couple of years ago, we saw a group of adults basking on the bracken. I did take a couple of pics but from at least 4 feet away lol.
