Owls have high PH in their stomach so they are unable to digest bone and other hard parts of their prey so they expel pellets containing the remains of their victim

Hi Jason
There have been a few around Norfolk, Suffolk and Northumberland being the best places but not in the number of recent years. Orkney is a great place to see them as is Mull and the Uists. Fingers crossed this winter.

Very nice, I'm jealous.
I got zero SEO pics this year... the weird weather seems to have made them mostly skip my area.
And I've never found them up as early as these...

Hi Steven
Thanks very much if you want them up early try a trip to Orkney. We spotted them through out the day there it is also fantastic for other bird life as well normally the shorties tend to get up earlier after a couple of days of bad weather.

A cracking series of Shortie shots, Richard. A bird I am yet to see so you can imagine how these images make me feel ;)

Hi Gavin and Neil
Thanks very much glad you are enjoying them it is surprising how many images you collect over the years and do nothing with and they just sit on the hard drive. To me my photography has always been about the fun of the chase and the well being of the subject. I prefer to be out and about as nothing gives me more pleasure than being on a beach somewhere or in the hills and on the mountains in the UK taking photographs. Processing images has always been my downfall I will select a few from a shoot then the others get left crap ones discarded of course. This is the reason behind this thread to make me go through my hard drives.

A short eared owl's plumage is mottled tawny to brown with a barred tail and wings. The upper breast is significantly streaked I have found they can vary an awful lot in being lighter and darker in the same shades of these colours.
