another filter question

I have some ND filters coming 2,4,&6 stop. can these be stacked with out lossing to much IQ or am I better off trying to still get a 6 and 10?

I'd try to get the 6 and 10 if I were you. As you stack more filters then you increase the chances of colour fringing. Each time the light passes from the glass to air, the various colour components will be refracted at marginally different angles and, with multiple filters, the effect becomes cumulative....one of the reasons that lens elements are bonded with resin.

You will also increase the depth of the filter mounts, therefore increasing the chance of them causing vignetting on you finished image
