Hi, I live on the Wirral and we've seen this bird for the last 6-8 weeks over a small wooded area near our house and over our garden. It's been chased several times by seagulls and larger crows but is currently circling overhead again. It floats around on the thermals and barely flaps its wings and makes a high pitched sound.
From what we can see, it looks like a Red Kite but I'd appreciate any advice from people who know a lot more than me!

Apologies for the quality, they're heavy crops of shots taken on my Nex with a manual 80-200 lens and 2x teleconvertor!
It's hard to estimate wingspan but it's considerably larger than any of the gulls we see normally.
Cheers
Steve
