Hi, just looking for any for or against on using a black background on images. Many Thanks, Russ.

Not for me. The bt is in sunlight and the flat black background looks too artificial to me. My 2p worth
 
Feeling a no for me tbh.
Obviously the subject is the sole focus but to me it feels/looks ’fake’.
I think it would work more if there were hints of the background still and the predominantly dark/black background a result of the lighting/environment at the time. Hope that makes sense!

Nice shot though.
 
I had this problem with Kingfishers earlier in the year. I was happy to get the images but the black backgrounds I got at times failed to grow on me.

As the sun got lower in the sky in September, the background started to light up too, making a much more even exposure.

When exposing for bright whites on a bird like this, the BG often ends up very dark.
