Canon 18-55 Kit Lens Infinity

As per the title really, how do I focus on infinity with the Canon kit lens ?

I want to attempt some fireworks pictures :]

Choose a distant subject with the centre point, the further away the better like a chimney stack or something, and focus on it. Then switch the lens to manual focus so it won't move.
