Morning folks,

I want to go back in time a little bit, (gear wise), to when all I had was an A1 and a 50mm f1.8 lens, so, was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad experiences of the 2 above mentioned lenses...? Oh yes, sorry, should say this would be on a Canon 600D.

Mike.

I've never used the Canon, I had the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and I thought it was a very good lens.

Good points...
The HSM is lovely and allows full time manual focus.
It's pretty sharp wide open at f1.4.

Not so good points...
It's APS-C only so you can't use it on a full frame DSLR or 35mm SLR.
It's a bit chunky.
The focus ring feels a bit gritty. I tried another in a shop and it was just the same so I assume it's something to do with how it works.
I've read reports of field curvature but to be honest I never found it to be a real world issue.
Some report focus issues but I never had any issues on my Canon 20D.

Personally I bought the Sigma but I'm sure that even though the Canon has a slightly less sexy specification it'll be ok :D

Good luck choosing.
