Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Same here. I'm awaiting the YN-622C-TX as that'll save me having to navigate into the camera OCF menus to adjust zooms and power.

As u can see. My 5d3 goes with me wherever I go. It's like my child. Can't just leave my child/camera at home alone can i?

622's for me as well, been spot on since ive had them.

Picked up a Tamron 24-70 VC on Friday, couldnt justify the extra cost of the Canon and i wanted the VC for extra video capability. So far im impressed, image quality seems superb and its really well built.

I would like some advise on the mk 3 as I'm wishing to upgrade, and just wanna know what it's really like

Alright that was a silly thing to say, as in what dyou find the best out of the mk 3, my apologies, so basically it's specialties

This has probably been asked already but here goes- is it really worth the money to upgrade, i have a canon 5d mk2 which as you already know gives superb image quality, apart from the much better focus system what other advantages are they, may help me make up my mind.

Natasha .. there's not really any negative feedback for the 5D3:) if you can afford it and have the time to learn its settings then dont hold back!

In that case I'd say, for me, it specialises in being very adaptable to how the user wants to work with it.
There are a lot of smaller features that don't always get the attention they deserve, but go to make this camera very user friendly.
IQ is of course top notch.

High Ido noise capabilities are brilliant. Silent shutter is a godsend at times.
Does the 5d mk2 have two memory cards?

No, just the one memory card and it also handles high iso noise very well. Big tick for the silent shutter on the mk3.
I know the mk3 does in camera HDR but not much interested in that. Don't think there is enough for me to upgrade although I have been told from those that have one it is a brilliant camera.

Any advice for AF settings to use with a 5D3 and 70-200 f2.8 when shooting football?

My favourite thing on the 5D3 and has been for a while

After putting grads in and then stick a ten stop on, turn on live view

You can still see! Even works at night relatively well

Thank you!

The 5d arrived today.

After quickly unpacking my new camera, I quickly realized I have a big big learning curve with the 5d. After upgrading from my beloved 7d the difference is unbelievable, all I need now is the sigma 35mm to arrive and it's play time.

What are people's thoughts on the ggs screen protectors, and any advice on the mind blowing AF system would be much appreciated.

Regards

steve

I've put this up before but there seems to be a few more converts to the 5D3 cause. I have a PDF by Arthur Morris on the camera. He is primarily a bird photographer but if anyone wants a copy then send me your email add and I will send one.

Also this guy tries to explain the philosophy behind each parameter in the AF case settings.

My intervalometer is playing up. I believe it's this one which gets branded under many different names (iShoot, Neewer etc.). The "Set" button isn't very responsive anymore, so it's becoming really difficult to change the timer settings. So I want to buy a new one, preferably one that's going to last longer and preferably works wirelessly. There are a few to choose from, such as the Hahnel Giga T Pro II, Aputure Pro AP-WTR3C Coworker II, Pixel TW-282/N3, and I'm sure many others.

I've heard one of them (can't remember which) switches itself off after 60 seconds of inactivity, while another only allows 99 consecutive shots.

Can anyone share any first hand experience with these, or any other, wireless intervalometer for the 5DIII?

I've the ggs screen protector on my last three cameras including my present 5d mk3, I think they're a great piece of kit. TBH I'm still struggling a bit with the AF myself, sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. I got the Sigma 35mm a few weeks back (on this forum) I really haven't used it in anger yet, waiting for some decent weather to get out and about with it.

I've always used the one that clips over the viewfinder and screen.

Just bought a mk3 :) very excited... upgrading from a 40d, only lens's I have that will fit so far are my Canon 24-70 f2.8 and canon 70-200 f2.8 IS.... mainly do landscape stuff and normally use my sigma 10-20 on the 40d, so going to have to wait a while to probably get the canon 16-35 f2.8, but extremely excited and looking at this weekends weather should be able to actually get outside and use it!

And after a few years shooting Nikon I am back at Canon. I can honestly say I am blown away by the low light capability of this camera and an af system that isnt questionable. Testing it out like you do and reviewing the images on computer only to see shots taken in its native iso range at 12,800. Gobsmacked. Only learning need to pick things up fast before upcoming weddings lol

The focus tracking on the 5D iii is amazing! When shooting fast moving Kayaing it doesn't even break a sweat..

Upgrading to the 5D3 from a 450D, I feel I've got a massive learning curve coming up!

Been speaking to Panamoz and I'm going to get it from them.

One of the best things you will notice is the ease of which you can toggle the focus AF points, try the video in full manual as well, you will be blown away!

Can I ask what made you come back to Canon? I jumped ship as well and I'm loving being on the canon side of things!

I have used the Canon 5D MK2 extensively in the past and must admit I absolutely loved it even with the limited AF. I found its resolution superb and just right so to speak. I then bought a Nikon D700, D800, D3. I loved the D700 but missed the 5Ds resolution. The D800 upgrade sorted that(or so I thought) only used it for about 10% of my shots when doing weddings and portraits. I honestly thought it was overkill. The AF was also quite unpredictable as we all know. I moved to a D3, which was just a big D700 truth be told.

I have always missed the ergonomics of the 5D, the grip felt much better than the smaller nikon grips.

Also I think one of the biggest difference that I have noticed after the change(and with the mk2) was how the Camera rendered skin tones and its out of camera look. Seems to render the red colour gamut alot differently.

There has been alot of reasons to be fair, this is just a few.

So far just getting my bearings around the MK3 but all in all I am glad I jumped ship.

It interesting that you say that about the out of camera thing, as thats one of the things that I love about the switch. I find myself spending much less time on pp to get the file finished, than I had to with Nikon. Also I love the fact that the AWB is bang on 99% of the time.

Thank you! This is another one of my favourites, this was shooting into the sun. I used to use a 7D before and I had some stunning results with that also :)
