Yes
Quick question, i think i can get hold of either of these for about £200 is there going to be much between them image quality wise? im basically after a cheap way of getting to 400mm and i know i wont get razor sharp results, its more of a fill in until i can get a 100-400 .

anyone had a tokina?

Morning, any views?

I have the canon 70-200 2.8 IS, which is superb. However, it does loose a fair bit of image quality and focussing speed when used with a 2X tc. It's fine with the 1.4X tc.

Im off in to LCE in lincoln tomorrow as they have the tokina in for £199 2nd hand so i'll have a play with that and a 2xtc and compare the two i think.

Care to divulge where you can buy a 70-200 2.8 Canon for £200!?!?!?

Ha I wish I could!! I can get the 2xtc for £200 I've already got the 70-200. That's what I meant.

Silly suggestion time Euan but it's a Sunday so why not.

You've obviously got £200 to spare. Sell your 1.4X II and you're up to around £380. Add this to the proceeds of selling your 70-200/2.8 and you'll have enough for your 100-400 IS and all you've lost is the 70-100mm range.

Im really after adding to the two lens i have rather than any more substitutions. Not a silly suggestion but there is no way im giving up the 70-200 anytime soon.

The only reason i was thinking about the 2xTC was to save space in the bag but ive really given up on that idea now. So its off to LCE to try out the Tokina tomorrow and see what its like.

cheers for the replys

I'll post some pics up over the next day or so, been and picked it up and it seems alright especially for the money.

Not the most exciting pictures but not a bad test for accuracy. As expected the focus is pretty slow but i knew that from reviews. All in all pretty good for a £199 80-400 lens i think.

Seems a little soft at 400mm wide open but the f11 examples are noticeably sharper and for £200 you cannot complain at all.

Yeah all the reviews said it was soft wide open but stopping it down made a big difference, another advantage is the size of the lens is its size its really small, about the size of a 24-105 L.

straight out of the camera as a jpeg resized onto photobucket then put on here. Ive got originals in raw as well but not really looked at them to be honest as i doubt id be pixel peeping on this lens. if you want any crops etc let me know.
