Following on from this thread I put a bit of the guidance into practice and ended up with this;

Caterpillar V2 by cw318is, on Flickr

Shot at high iso to get the speed up (I was using a monopod as my tripod is at work). Luckily the caterpillar hasn't moved overnight, but was in a bit of shadow. So have I improved? - feedback appreciated and gratefully received!

Much better dof, I posted a comment on your last post re settings to try. They were given to me by a forum member and have worked wonders for me. I note that due to the high ISO there is some noise in the image, noise was a big problem for me. Im by no means an expert but am more than happy to pass on advice given to me by forum members.
The settings that I was given and work for me are Manual Mode,f /11, ISO 100,Speed 200WB Auto, flash 430EXII difussed and set to -1/3 to 2/3, and RAW mode, I also use a tripod.
Good Luck

Thanks Adam, 20D's don't do above ISO400 cleanly unfortunately! will give your settings a try soon once I get hooked up with a new flash.
