Hiya all very new here trying to get into my photography abit more now be doing it about a year now.

Im looking at expanding my kit and getting a new lens ive been looking at lots of different one but dont know which to get yet and which ill use most out of them.

The ones ive been looking at are
50mm fixed lens
70-300mm or so
or 10-20mm wide angles lens

which do you get the most out of. Ive only got 18-55mm standard unit on at the moment. Also any pointers on which is best for my camera would be great.

I had a look at tamron 70-300mm lens but reviews on these seem abit poor but price is cheap.

any help would be great.

hi, welcome to the forum. all 3 lenses you list are completely different. what kind of photography are you most interested in ?

Nikon do a 35mm f1.8 prime (fixed) lens that will be the equivilent of 50mm or so on your D60 and will also autofocus, which the Nikon 50mm f.18 won't. If you're into portraiture, this would be a good an inexpensive addition.

If you're after more reach, then either the Nikon 55-200VR or the Sigma 70-300APO would be a good bet. The Sigma will give you more reach (although not loads in reality) but the Nikon had VR vibration reduction. If you punt for the Sigma, make sure its the better APO version and also the APO version with the built in motor so it will autofocus on your camera (there are some cheaper non-motor ones around).

It all depends on what you're looking to do. If you are happy with the focal lengths you have then you could either look at a decent flash unit (SB400 or SB600) or even upgrade the quality of the lens you already have - maybe a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 or similar - this would give you better low light performance and better image quality.

Let us know what you're into and I'm sure you'll get some good advice here (y)

You will not go far wrong with an 50mm but for your camera it will have to be an AFS 50mm f/1.4G if you want to retain the auto focus. The AFS35mm is also worth looking at and will be a little wider. The 70-300 is a good lens but quality wise both the primes (lenses that do not zoom) will be MUCH better.

In order to decide WHICH of these is for you zoom your lens to 35mm and try it THEN try it at 50mm.....

Which do you prefer?

The AF 50mm f/1.8D is a great lens but it will be MANUAL FOCUS ONLY on your body. The AFS50mm f/1.4G is £289 but will AUTO FOCUS on your body, it is a better and faster lens but considerably more money.

yes quite abit extra money for the auto focus. i might have to get it without just to see how i get on etc.

just seen the 28mm nikon lens aswell arrhhhhh so hard to choose if only i had the money to buy all of them.

You can get the 35mm cheaper than that. I paid £168 from Warehouse Express.

There is the 18-70mm, look in the for sale ads on here, or there is the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 Macro Lens which is very good.

Look for used equipment, Misfuds have a Nikon 28-105mm for £149.
