Hi Folks,

A while ago i sold all my equipment as my wife was pregnant and i knew i wouldn't get full use of the gear i had. When it was all gone i missed it but rather than purchasing it all back i went down the route of a GF3, 20mm f1.7 and 45mm f1.8 which i really didn't like as the camera was too small for me and i just couldn't get on with it. I thought some of the images were superb but it seemed very hit and miss which i wasn't keen on. I sold it and bought another Canon 50d, 580 ex mk1 flash, some triggers, soft box and background set up etc and it is just not getting used at all. I am thinking about seeling up again as it's value is dropping and it seems silly to have it sitting in the cupboard.

I am now thinking though that i will miss having a decent camera and i'm thinking about purchasing a good compact again similar to the GF3 but maybe a tad better and with the ability to house a hot shoe flash or even be able to connect to studio lights and rather than go for the 20mm and 45mm again i was wondering if there are any good zooms about these day. I'm just being lazy here but i really don't want to spend weeks reading through reviews when there are so many knowledgeable people on here.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Scott

sigma dp, or see if you can find a compact that takes a grip, some nexes might have unoffical grips

well I wouldn't have bought a gf3, for exactly the reasons you've mentioned
I bought a GX1 which includes the hotshoe
some of the lenses have high end quality, f2.8 portrait lenses for example
I use the compact zoom 14-42 and the 17mm pancake f1.7

also you have the really like PEN ones or the winner at the moment is the APS-C mirrorless Sony
maybe too small for you but I think comes with a decent sized grip
also the smaller fujis are making big waves

if cost and versatility are both a concern I would look at GX1 or replacement, the oly PEN, CSC sony maybe?

the reason I like the LUmix especially is that it has a built in flash and a hot shoe

I had a Fuji X10 for a while, awesome little camera but bulkier than most compact...

The XF-1, again from Fuji (and sharing the X-10's guts) is very capable and small enough to slip into a shirt pocket. Might be hard to find these days, although Curry's/PCWorld might still have some available.

Currys definitely have them to order on the website and some stores stil have them in too

I went from the GF3 to the G3 and it was a big improvement - mainly for the evf, articulated screen, better sensor/IQ at higher ISO, better grip/size (for me) and of course it has a hot shoe too

The G5 and G6 are out now so those would be ones to consider:

Wilkinson and T4 have the Panasonic G5 + 14-42 lens for £250 or with the 45-150 lens thrown in as well, for £400:
