Yes
Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this in, but I've often wondered how an AF-S lens actually works... where all the gubbins is (motors/circuits/gears etc) and how it all fits into seamingly no space at all. Can anyone point me to any website with exploded views etc that show/explain it all? I'd find it facinating to see. :)

im sure ive seen one on the canon website somewhere.

Exploded drawing of a lens eh, yield not to temptation or you will be sorry.

That's a nice simple cut-away of lens groups, but where are all the clever bits... motors, circuits etc? I'm a mechanical engineer by trade so I'm amazed how these things actually operate. AF in the blink of an eye, aperture adjust, MF override clutches etc etc, but in seamingly no room at all with all those optics taking up what looks like all available space. This is especially clever with large zooms with big heavy optical elements to move about.

Thanks both, yes that's great. It appears that on zooms at least, there is an anulus of space between the moving zoom element and the inner elements for the motor and circuitry.

Interesting, thanks (y)
