Critique First attempt at low-key self profile

Hi Gary, I can see what you were trying to do here and well done on a first low key selfie.
Couple of things which stand out is that it would probably look better either black and white, or with more of a blue cast to it, as if being illuminated by some monitor etc. And in this, the shadows need to be brought down a bit as there is a couple of iffy distractions. I've just had a 5 second play to show you what I mean in B+W - and all I've done is bring the shadows down a tad and convert to BW.
Keep at it - with a vision in mind you could get this spot on :)View attachment 17050
 
Cheers christo, i just looked at it on a different screen and see exactly what you mean.

There must be a problem with the screen on my mac as I totally didnt notice this at all!

try some cropping...dont let the sensor dictate your format
good edit...cant see the original
work on the eye highlight a bit to bring it more in the iris area

have you been to nepal?
