Hi folks,

I had an hour at a friend's chocolate shop / cafe to try and practice some food + product photography. Would love to get some feedback.

The rest are on a Flickr album here

I think my lighting was too harsh and at too low an angle but I'd appreciate any feedback.

Fair points, thanks for looking. I had the cup there for the shots with cakes but yeah doesn't really make sense here in hindsight.
This was the only shot I tilted just to experiment, difficult to know when it works and when it doesn't.
Yeah a macro lens would have been handy.

As above.
Also, that tray with the chocolates is a bit too crowded, and is forcing some of them to be at a silly angle as they ride up the slope on the dish.

Yes, the lighting is really too hard for my taste, my approach would have been to have a soft overhead light and a very hard light skimming across the tops, revealing/creating detail - assuming of course that you have the lights to do it with.
See my very basic tutorial on a food shot here
